Lush shampoo bars

Has anybody used any of the shampoo bars? If so, are they good and worth the money? I'm attempting to reduce plastic in my home

I use them, started just before Xmas. They lather up really nicely either in both hands and then on head or directly on head. My 3 teen girls all use them now too. I’ve not tried the conditioner bars yet, have heard mixed reviews. Shampoo bars last ages. I keep meaning to make a note of exactly how long!

ramonaquimby · 17/07/2018 22:51

So yes def worth the money

Attic14 · 17/07/2018 22:52

I like them but they seriously strip my hair colour, even the ones they say is FOR coloured hair

smellmybacon · 17/07/2018 23:10

i like mine. lather it up in your hands and not directly on to your hair though. i got clumps if it stuck and was rinsing for about an hour 😫

Cacti · 17/07/2018 23:14

I love them but there are a few down sides:

  • hard to put anywhere without getting bits all over the bath/tray
  • if you have thick hair they don't last long
  • strip your hair of colour so avoid if you dye your hair
  • if you bleach you'll need a conditioner

I do like the lack of plastic and they make my hair squeaky clean but sometimes the convenience of a squeezy bottle influences how often I purchase.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 17/07/2018 23:18

I can very much recommend Jason and The Argan Oil it's brilliant

Glitterandunicorns · 17/07/2018 23:31

They're great! I particularly like Honey I Washed My Hair. It smells beautiful and is gentle enough to use on my toddler's hair as well as my own.

Branleuse · 17/07/2018 23:34

I find them harsh tbh and they concrete themselves to whatever you put thrm on if theyre wet

Kiwiinkits · 17/07/2018 23:37

Do you have to store them on a special draining tray or anything in the shower so they don't get soggy/sticky?

UAEMum · 17/07/2018 23:40

I got caught up in the hype of buying these and ordered 2 sets of shampoo and conditioner. I hate them! They don't lather well and the conditioner is rubbish. I was delighted to go back to my usual shampoo and conditioner.

RedPandaMama · 17/07/2018 23:41

I'm going to go against the grain. I love the idea and they smell amazing and obviously v environmentally friendly without the packaging etc.

But I found them to be quite harsh on my hair - granted, I was using them when DD was only about 5 months old so was probably still losing hair after pregnancy, but I found my hair kept falling out all over the place and they just didn't suit my hair type. I did have long hair at the time but I found it hard to lather enough to clean all of my hair.
Also storing them is a nightmare and they ended up living in a cereal bowl on the window sill.

hatters · 17/07/2018 23:44

I have Honey too and really like it. I think it's less than half gone, I got it on March 9th. I have long ish but very fine hair. It's my first time trying them and I will definitely purchase again!

I have a shower caddy that doesn't hold any water.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 17/07/2018 23:48

I just used one for the the first time today and my hair feels better than it had in ages! So soft and smooth. I found it lathered in my hand really well, and went on much more thick and creamy than I had expected. I have coloured hair, so time will tell how it fairs I suppose.

whymewhyme · 18/07/2018 06:31

Thanks for your replies, I'm undecided now if they are harsh on the hair then it won't suit mine at all as it dries out a lot if I use a harsh shampoo!

AConvivialHost · 18/07/2018 06:40

I don't think they are harsh on hair if used properly. The one I have you are supposed to do an acidic rinse (I use diluted lemon juice) after, to neutralise the ph. I have naturally coarse hair and love the shampoo bars, they leave my hair soft and bouncy,

SureIusedtobetaller · 18/07/2018 06:43

They have a lot of sls in- are there any without? I thought they were ok but sls makes my scalp itchy.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 18/07/2018 06:45

They lather well and leave my hair v clean. The nice smell seemed to vanish after a week of being opened. I use the conditioner bar too which I find really good.

However I am looking for alternatives as I do not want to support Lush anymore due to their misguided PR / political campaigns.

hugoagogo · 18/07/2018 06:45

Bomb do them too.

Undercoverbanana · 18/07/2018 06:56

I use the one called Godiva. Smells lovely.

Love it. I don’t colour my hair so can’t comment on the effects mentioned above.

Attic14 · 18/07/2018 11:57

Bomb do them too

Ohhhh I do love Bomb, after the Spycops thread I have tried their bombs and the smells was far more pleasant and non-headache inducing than Lush.

justpoppngby · 18/07/2018 12:12

Ive been using the 'honey' one for about 3 months now. I love it, I have fine flyaway great-after-a-day hair, it's made my hair soft, feels thicker, smells great and I now wash my hair every 2-3 days no greasy roots. (My hair styles better after a day left)
I keep it in a little flannel or a little dish.
I've also stopped using a conditioner and have had no knotty or dry brittle problems either.

Lush shampoo bars have SLS in them which isn’t great for hair.
