Going on vacation / need to drop some pounds

Hi everyboby, I'm going on vacation in a month, that's the good news, but I need to drop a stone, that's the bad news. I really don't want to look like a beached whale in my bikini so I try to find out how to get this done in a healthy way.

Now, I also am trying to go to the gym twice a week for at least 2 to 3 hours. I know nothing about protein powders. No idea about calorie intake. Everything I read online seems to contradict the previous article on the same issue. I just want to lose weigh fast and stay alive.

A lot of people on the internet recommend a low carb diet, I'm currently considering one of the diets below bit.ly/2mjLaWF

But a vegan diet is often recommended as well (which runs imo counter to a low carb diet)

Low carb or high carb ? Low protein or high protein ?
Either one seems to work. It makes me crazy. Do I do an 1200 calorie diet? Just chicken rice and veggies? What has worked for you?

Any help is appreciated !

Hey!

Right there with you. Recently have put on 7 pounds and want to lose it so I can feel confident in all this lovely weather we are having!

I find what works for me is no snacking. Simply breakfast, lunch and dinner. Only water to drink - no juices, squash or alcohol.

I also stay away from fruit (mainly because I tend to have an oral reaction) but also because it is so high in sugar - even if its natural sugars. When people go on a health kick they often tend to eat a lotttt of fruit.

I would never say cut out a food group but just everything in moderation still!

Fruit is still high in sugar so having too much of it isn't a good idea. I like to think of it as nature's dessert!

Anyway, for me personally not having fruit has worked (or at least only having a little of it but again this is for allergy reasons!)

I'm a vegetarian so eat a lot of veg.

I would say don't restrict your calorie intake too much, especially as you are doing additional exercise.

Here is what I will be eating (and have eaten I lost a stone previously on it).

Breakfast: Marmite on toast / or weetabix (However I find toast strangely fills me up more and keeps me going for longer!)

Lunch: rice, Broccoli, peas / small veggie based meal.

Dinner: rice, brocolli, peas / Vegetable mash + peas/ or soup + bread / or a small veggie based meal.

If I really must have a snack then I have some greek yoghurt.

I stick to just having water and tea or coffee - but with skimmed milk.

Plus when you are having that craving for more food or a snack - go make a tea!

I replace butter with low calorie marg.

Ok so I wouldn't recommend this really. It's quite restrictive!

But it works for me because a) I can't cook and b) I'm boring and don't mind eating the same things.

I personally would stay away from protein powders. Really (and I know it's boring and gets said quite a lot)but you just need a healthy, balanced diet.

If you want to lose weight fast then just be super, super healthy - no snacks, no chocolate, no biscuits, no crisps, junk food, takeaway, chips at dinner - not saying you do this of course!

And finally, I would also just add that never get disheartened if the weight doesn't drop off quickly despite diet and exercise change.

For me personally, it takes time to see the results. But when I do, I know its worth it!

I have a super slow metabolism so I just have to power on through and keep going.

With Slimming World you will easily be able to lose a stone in a month! I lost over 4 stone on SW a few years ago and have kept it off.

Joey where is your protein?

joeybarnett · 17/07/2018 15:03

Good question - Beans, lentils I have a lot of those! And Greek Yoghurt!

I don't eat fish or meat as I am a Vegetarian.

The only weight loss thing that has worked for me is using the My fitness pal app on my phone. I set my goal weight and added how quickly I wanted to lose it and the app automatically sets your max calories each day. For me I have to eat no more than 1500 calories daily. It takes a bit to log everything you eat at the start but I soon got the hang of it very quickly. I think once you eat the correct amount of calories you can then start looking at your carbs/protein/fat/sugar intake.
I’ve lost a stone and kept it off for over a year now. I was initially shocked at the calorie content of the foods I was eating at the start so it was a real eye opener for me. You also log your exercise so can eat a bit more if you’ve had a particularly active day. I love it but it’s really just common sense.

The only thing that seems to work for me is upping the exercise and replacing one meal (lunch) with a Slim fast shake whilst eating a sensible breakfast and dinner. That and limited snacking, plus cutting right back on booze helped me lose a stone and a half a couple of years ago. My weight is slowly creeping back up again, post holiday, so I restarted my regime again last week and have already lost a few pounds whilst not feeling hungry and with little effort.

Plank obliques really help define your core and waist very quickly. I do 2 x 20 every other day and watch the waist return.
