Stephanie's wedding dress was beautiful, though, as was her sister-in-law's Princess Claire. Both were Elie Saab.

Clionba · 22/07/2018 20:24

Has Stephanie Luxembourg has tragedies? I think she's very pretty, and her wedding dress was gorgeous. She was recently in a yellow slimline shift which was nice, but paired with a white floppy hat that you used to see a lot in the 70s!

SenecaFalls · 22/07/2018 20:34

I think they tragedies reference was to Princess Caroline. Certainly she has had some devastating ones including widowhood.

Clionba · 22/07/2018 20:49

Oh right. Yes, widowed with three young children, very sad. I think the Prince of Hanover hasn't been a great husband!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/07/2018 20:55

Yes I meant Caroline, with the loss of her mother and husband.

Ernst August is a dreadful father too - demanded his son return his inheritance and then got so drunk at said son's wedding that he had to be put in a medically-induced coma! I'm not sure if he's recovered now or if he's still in hospital.

I’ve met Princess Stephanie (before she was a Princess). I used to work with her brother and went to his parents’ home for lunch. Didn’t realise that he was quite so grand before we rocked up at the chateau!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/07/2018 21:17

Yes, she was a Countess in her own right before her marriage wasn't she? Apparently she and Guillaume now live in London.

Blimey @Queen, you are an encyclopaedia of Euro Royal Knowledge!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/07/2018 21:30

I prefer historic royals but I've learned all about the Euro ones from the Go Fug Yourself blog's Royal Round-ups!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/07/2018 21:31

Tho tbh the tidbit about Stephanie was learned from someone else upthread!

That Go Fug Yourself royal roundup is very thorough!
If you like Historical Royal Books, I've found Theo Aronson on Amazon to be a good read, thorough, well written and cheap on kindle.
His book on Queen Victoria, Grandmama of Europe or something was fascinating about how she just married off her children and Grandchildren to all the Royal houses of Europe & Russia

Paradyning · 22/07/2018 22:26

I love all this euronroyal stuff too. Did you hear about Caroline's hubbie's accident actually being a mafia hit as he owed lots of money. His coffin was left standing up in the church which is apparently a sign. Sure I read that on Royal Foibles blog

Paradyning · 22/07/2018 22:27

Ahem. Slight digression from clothes there. But I think Caroline looks slightly eccentric in her HC Chanel

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/07/2018 22:38

No! I'd not heard that @Paradyning! Very sad if it's true, as their youngest, Pierre, was just a baby when he died. Pierre named his eldest son Stefano, after the father I assume he can't even remember, which is quite touching.

Have we seen Princess Theordora of Germany's wedding dress? I'm not a fan (the collar and cap sleeves...) but kudos to her for trying something different. Princess Franziska's green dress is lovely though, one well dressed bump.

Paradyning · 22/07/2018 22:50

Ooo not liking that dress Craic. Thanks for posting. Are they related to the Danes?

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/07/2018 22:53

I don't like that dress @TheCraicDealer and, judging from the article, I'm not sure I'd be too keen on Theodora either! I liked the green dress the pregnant guest was wearing though - very elegant.

Thanks for the link @Paradyning, looks like a good blog to get lost in! Interesting that the section called F**ked Up Royal Marriages is illustrated by a photo of Frederik and Mary of Denmark. Though of course there are those weird blogs devoted to tearing her apart and claiming she entrapped him, he's a drunk etc etc. They're worse than anything I've ever read about Kate or Meghan tbh.

I like the green dress worn by Princess Kaitlin von something.

I wonder what the Euro Royals think of our British Monarchy, in terms of how it stands not personal opinion of whether Harry is friendly I mean

SenecaFalls · 23/07/2018 00:00

I do find it a bit amusing that so many of these folk continue to call themselves prince, princess, etc. in countries that have abolished monarchy and noble titles.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/07/2018 06:25

Yes @ Seneca, cannot believe how many random princes & princesses there are in Europe.
Apparently there are various pecking orders in the levels of princes/esses. No idea how it works.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/07/2018 06:43

Don't the German princes and dukes still have some form of estate or land?

The ones who make me laugh are the Greek royal family. The king was deposed years ago but they all still use their titles. It'll get even more ridiculous if he dies and the crown prince assumes his title. He'd be the king of nowhere! And his wife calls herself a crown princess and has the cheek to throw shade at Letizia, who is an actual queen!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 23/07/2018 07:23

It's interesting to look at how interrelated the royal families of Europe still are today. Queen Margarethe and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden are first cousins. Her sister is the "queen" of Greece. The "king" of Greece's sister is the former queen of Spain (the current king's mother). The king of Norway and the former king of Belgium (Mathilde's FiL) are cousins.

And that's even before you go further back and discover that most of the European monarchs are descended from either queen Victoria, king Christian of Denmark or both! I think the only exceptions are the Monegasque and Dutch monarchs.

I agree about Princess Caroline of Hanover and her Chanel high couture. Some of it looks quite bonkers, and I always thought Chanel was classy! Yes, an awful lot of interconnecting families in Europe. Very wise of William and Harry to open the gene pool. I read somewhere that the European Royals are miffed that the Windsors have little to do with them.
