Cheap vs ‘premium’ beauty products

I seem to get break outs when I use cheaper skin products and am wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

I worked at Boots years ago and as I had discount I used more premium brands, so just stuck with them after I left. I’ve never had issues up until the last year or so when I decided to try out cheaper stuff, thinking it’s probably all the same!

Off the top of my head, I’ve had breakouts from the Superdrug Glycolic products (all of them), their deep pore cleanser and I remember a Garnier BB cream giving me painful lumps all over my forhead ☹️

I know I’ve had issues with cheaper foundations too but can’t remember the brands.

But for probably 10 years, I used Estee Lauder, Clinique, YSL all that jazz and never had any issues (apart from my regular blackheads). I could put anything on my skin without worrying

Cheaper products I’ve tried give me painful bumps, and those really hard, small whiteheads that you can’t get rid of (I think they’re a type of cyst if I remember from Googling in the past).

I’ve used the same product types in other brands too (like Pixie Glycolic Acid etc) so I really think it is brands rather than a particular product itself.

I was so happy when I read the Superdrug reviews, thinking yes I can save so much money. Which I have, but in trade for my face 🙄

The only conclusion I can come to is that my skin is snobby. Or maybe cheaper products have common ingredients that just leave a layer on your skin rather than working with it (similar to how some showergels can be)? I don’t know.

Would love to know I’m not the only one having this issue. I’m currently nursing a painful face and not looking forward to going back to expensive skincare!
