Is this dress appropriate for a September evening wedding reception?

I'll be spending most of the next few weeks in the wilderness for work where there's no internet shopping! So I have to get an outfit organized before then for my friend's wedding in early September. I've spent most of my adult life living overseas where things are much more casual and often get it a bit wrong in these situations. So I'd be very grateful for some advice!

I'm not sure if this is important, but the wedding is a sort of repeat or reception for people who can't make it to the initial wedding on the other side of the world (the bride's home country). It's going to happen in the evening and it's the sort of event where there will be dancing and (I think) dinner.

I have pale pinkish-toned skin and dark blonde hair. Red may not be the best shade for me, but for some reason this dress stood out. So with that issue and the fact that it may be more of a day dress, I'm soliciting advice! Thanks a lot.

I have your colouring and orangey reds actually look lovely on us! I really like the dress.

MyCatsRuleTheHouse · 15/07/2018 08:50

The dress is lovely and definitely appropriate. I’m also fair and wouldn’t wear red, but if you’re feeling confident go for it. I’d go for some dressy shoes though.

and it’s fine for what you described unless everyone else is in full-on formal evening wear.

MrMeSeeks · 15/07/2018 08:52

Yes its nice

NataliaOsipova · 15/07/2018 08:54

I'm pretty conservative in these matters and I think that dress would be very nice for the sort of occasion you describe.

Love that dress! Where's it from? I think it would be lovely for what you describe.

I think it’s fine for an evening ‘do’.

But if you’re a bit iffy about the colour, I have a similar event and have bought this Warehouse jumsuit. Nice on and not too expensive. I plan to wear it with the Zara white cape blazer from last year.

I love that dress! Where's it from?

I think it's perfect for an evening do. Have fun!

AnythingConsidered · 15/07/2018 10:42

Agreed its a lovely dress, but you have to tell us where it's from so we can go and buy one too!

Thanks everyone! I'm surprised (but very happy) you all think it's fine for an evening wedding. I expected that it might be considered too much of a day dress or too loud.

It's from a brand called "Mayerline" that has a sub-brand "Ameline" that tends to be a bit less formal. It's based in Belgium. I like it because I'm anywhere from size 16 - 20 and I find the designs are much more flattering and classic than most other brands for my size. They do sleeves and shaping! It can be quite expensive, but the sales are great.
