Going from bleached silver blonde to copper?

Advice please? Used to be a natural redhead, started going grey/silver a long time ago and dyeing it back to red. About a year ago I got really fed up of having to dye it every 4 weeks so I went to the hairdressers and over a couple of long sessions got all the colour stripped out and highlights put in with the intention of just letting everything grow out (I have very long hair). It's now a mix of sort of brown and white at the roots, blonde and white at the ends, sort of an ombré effect I guess.
Anyway, have been missing my red more and more, this blonde just isn't me. My hairdresser is chocka and I'm not sure I have time before a big meeting in 2 weeks to get it done anyway.
My question is would I be a prize buffoon if I just bought a couple of permanent dyes at Boots and went for it? I'd be looking at 7.4 which is the one I used to use.
I do not want green hair gavel
Any advice appreciated, thanks

I wouldn’t do it yourself, no. Especially not with the products that Boots sell.

The thing is, you have a range of colours and undertones in your hair which would need to be corrected before you place a copper colour on it. I’m not a hairdresser so I’m not sure what exactly would be used on each section of your hair, but there’s a high chance that you’d end up with uneven hair with a strange undertone in areas. A salon would probably apply product in different areas first (eg toner on blonde hair not on brown or colour on dark areas first and light areas later on). I’d just leave it to the professionals. If you can’t get in with your usual stylist, can you try another stylist at the salon? Or go on a cancellation waiting list? I’m sure you hair can’t be that bad that it would look awful for the meeting in two weeks. If it does, wear a nice hat or place it in a bun?

Hmmm yeah, you would be entering the prize baffoon arena, but I've done exactly the same in the past, going from platinum to copper too, so guess I'll be joining you there!! Grin.
I've dyed my hair for years at home, currently its icy platinum pearl blonde which I always get notes of, and then end up going back to. Anyhoo...

This article describes how to do it, and the science of it, scroll down a bit to the advice of hairstylist Tyler Colton, he describes the method for going blonde to dark brown, but its the same for going copper, just switch the second dye to the copper you want from the brown he suggests :)

*buffoon, not baffoon

Shouldn’t be an issue since dyes are supposedly made to cover white hair. Only issue I can see is possible porosity.

I would use a Loreal one, not Nice n Easy or Boots if going down the high street route.

I personally have had the best results using Majirel which is easy enough to do yourself and seems kinder to the hair with more reliable colour outcome.

This will give you an idea re shades because one person’s idea of copper can be very different from another’s....

Thanks all. I've done the sensible thing and booked myself into a hairdressers on Wednesday. So hopefully I'll be looking fabulous for my meeting which'll completely distract from the fact I have no clue what I'm talking about Grin

Sounds like a good idea, plus you won't get THE FEAR whilst doing it, you'll be able to relax instead! Grin

I posted similar this morning. Natural redhead but now with a balayage and bleach from the sun and want to return to bring a proper redhead. Think I should bookninto the hairdressers too.

@iwankatramp which colour chart is this? Should I be asking a hairdresser for a colour from this chart?
