Yr 6 Prom outfit for boys - what trainers?

OK, so my slightly alternative yr 6 boy has decided he wants to wear jeans to the prom (there's no dress code) with a pale blue shirt and a navy waistcoat. We are going to buy him some 'smart' trainers to go with it. But here we disagree... I think that something low profile like Adidas Gazelles, Stan Smiths or similar would look good. However my eldest son (14) and DP reckon that these are 'dead' (?) and that high tops are much more in. I agree that I don'tknow whatis in for pre-teens anymore, but I think that the high tops would look ridiculous with a waistcoat etc. We can't change the outfit, just need the shoes. So does anyone have any recs?

Converse?

High top converse sounds like they would go nice

I'd be happy with converse as they still have a slim outline, but these are not down with the kids....they are talking bulky Nike hi tops that are grim Confused
