Has anyone tried spironolactone for acne / PCOS

I have chronic acne, don’t think I’ve woken up to ‘normal’ skin since I was 11

Have tried most topicals - BHA, AHAs, benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics, etc some of which helped but I’ve never had clear skin

I follow a low carb diet, (not keto but low carb) to try and help but still have acne
Previously tried eliminating dairy didn’t help either

I think as it’s hormonal diet and topical treatments alone won’t be enough...

I haven’t tried birth control but I’m so scared my skin will get worse afterwards, as I’ve heard a lot of cases where BC clears acne temporarily but once you get off it the acne comes back even stronger Sad

I have heard spironolactone is quite commonly prescribed in the US for women with hormonal acne, but not so much here in the U.K. Would love to know if anyone here has taken it, and what there experiences were
Also, did you have go private or is it available on the NHS

I was prescribed it for androgenise alopecia to have a blocking affect on the testosterone to the scalp. It would also help with greasy skin, hair & acne. I only lasted 4 days on it as if give me bad headaches & a migraine. I think it’s a diuretic & I don’t t drink a lot of water so not sure if that’s why it affected me.
I also tried the Dianette pill & Yasmin but didn’t get on with those either.
