Semi permanent blue hair dye

Need some help as promised my 14 yr she can dye her for the summer but hairdressers won’t dye it for her as she is below not 16.

So calling on collective wisdom of Mumsnet for best semi permanent dye for home use. Her hair is a natural light brown, has never been bleached or coloured before.

I guessing a darker colour like blue or purple would be the best chance to hold the colour as I don’t want to bleach it.

Any hints and tips also welcome for my first foray as a reluctant home colourist.

I would recommend either Directions or Manic Panic dye. It won't be super bright if she's not blonde bit they should show okay if you get a mid to dark blue or purple. I used to change hair colour every month and have been pink, blue, red, green, purple etc
Use old towels, be prepared for some transfer onto pillowcases etc and feel free to message me if you have any questions. :)

Special Effects (SFX) will work well on unlightened hair. In my experience, the colours are more vivid and long-lasting than Directions/Manic Panic/Crazy Color etc.

Red/pink SFX shades such as Cherry Bomb and Atomic Pink are fine on natural hair, so you don't have to restrict yourselves to darker colours.

It's also vegan and non tested on animals.

I use directions and they're fab. Blue washes out really easily and often turns a crappy green colour so I'd probably avoid that. I'd really recommend plum which is a lovely purple or rose red, which is actually a lovely dark to bright pink. Both stick to hair well and show up better than a lot of the other colours, if you're not bleaching first

My ds wanted his hair dyed over christmas, and I used Directions pillar box red on his normally mid brown hair. Though it wasn't a true red, it looked great, and washed without going a weird colour

Blues and greens tend to be hard to wash out ( just Google it)so if you do do it I would stick to a strip at the bottom or a bold streak so it's easy to cover or cut out at the end of the summer.
