Covering up for a funeral

I am going to a funeral service in Hungary. Apparently it is a very formal occasion and I have to wear black (fine) and cover my arms (more tricky).

I bought two new black dresses. Neither fits the bill without some accessorising.

The one I want to wear is similar to this www.esprit.co.uk/sale/women-sale/dresses/wrap-over-dress-in-a-firm-cotton-linen-blend-048EO1E008_230

Mine is black though, and slightly longer.

My issue is that it is going to be HOT. I could just bung a cardigan on to cover my arms but I will sweat. Could use a pashmina - but will that cover enough?

The other dress i bought is this one www.qvcuk.com/Curved-Hem-Trapeze-Swing-Dress-with-Pockets-by-Nina-Leonard.product.173726.html?sc=NAVLIST

If I wore a scarf/pashmina I could cover most of the rest of my arms. No cleavage on show - but it's shorter and shows my legs. Leggings? Too casual.. I could at least whip them off after the churchy parts of the day.

I plan to wear my black sandals. I can't do heels - and my feet swell up in the heat. Also travelling hand luggage only so could do with not taking too much.

Any ideas ? I am so not used to having to dress to conform to anyone's rules anymore. Grin

Thanks

I would lean towards the second one with a pashmina providing it doesn't come up too short on you as it is simple and covers shoulders/cleavage.

Is there anyone attending who you could ask and get guidance from? I've just had a quick Google and a lot of the images are showing knee length or longer short sleeved dresses covered up at the front, ie no cleavage.

Thanks Minesa.

I have modelled both for DH but he is quite non-committal and doesn't see why we have to abide by the rules..

The second dress is just above my knees (long legs) whereas the first dress is mid shin.

Wear the first with your cardigan, I will guarantee the church will be a lot cooler (cold!) compared to outside and you will appreciate it having sleeves. If there is an outdoor part to the service you can bear being hot for a very short while until it's over.

mmm you might be right there MiaFarrow

There is a church service, then a walk to the cemetary.

I doubt anyone will be walking as fast as I usually do.

At least I can just whip off the cardie afterwards - and it might come in useful on the plane too.
