Crunchy hair/water softener?

We have a salt based water softener (big blocks of salt) this is great as it keeps limescale totally at bay, but (and I don't know if it is this causing it) my hair is really 'crispy', has no shine at all and just looks frazzled all the time. I thought soft water was supposed to make hair shiny? Any ideas?! Thank you

We had a salt based softener too - was at the house when we bought it . DH loved it but I hate water softeners, and had the crispy hair etc so I uninstalled it. My hair is back to normal now. A few of my friends have since uninstalled theirs and have noticed the difference too.
