Havaiana flip flops.

I keep hearing Havaianas are the Creme de la Creme of the flip flop world. I've been sucked into the website and found leopard print ones that I love.
Are they worth the £23.99 price tag?
How are the any different to my £0.90 Primark flip flops? 😂

Goes against my normal principles but worth it. Mine have lasted for 4 years and will do this summer too

Candyflip · 11/07/2018 00:17

They do last, but they aren’t that special. The best I have ever found are Abercrombie (I only go there with my teenager) they are comfortable the second you put them on, last for years and are much prettier than Havaianas.

mammmamia · 11/07/2018 00:18

They are so comfortable. I bought mine in Brazil in 2008 for a fiver. They are still going strong Grin

Aus84 · 11/07/2018 04:27

They used to be. I don't know if we get different batches over here but the quality has gone downhill over the years. So much so that many surf shops tell you to hold onto your receipt or take a photo of it straight away when you buy a new pair. The last few pairs my husband and I have had, the strap part has broken off within a few months, we wear different brands now.

HappyEverIftar · 11/07/2018 09:31

Well my cat has chewed through seven pairs of them over the years so she likes them Grin Blush

I like them, I find them comfortable, especially the ones with the double coloured stripe running through the middle.

SlothMama · 11/07/2018 09:34

I love mine! I've had them a year and they are still looking good and are comfy

fruitpastille · 11/07/2018 09:34

I wouldn't pay that much for them. Mine are TKMaxx and a pair brought back from Brazil. I love the ones with the strap round the back - really comfy and a bit smarter looking.

Chocolate1984 · 11/07/2018 09:37

I still use a pair I bought in 2011 but the sole on the current ones don't seem as good.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 11/07/2018 09:39

I think they’re hit and miss.

Had a pair the year before last and loved them. Really comfortable, went with everything, easy to wear. I bought a pair last year - silver with the little diamanté and they are not as nice. Much harder, the top piece rubs. I’ve chosen my Primark ones so far this year over them.

PNGirl · 11/07/2018 10:07

I've only ever paid about £15 from TK Maxx. They're more flexible than cheaper ones and rub less at the toe post but they do still rub me if I do more than pad around the back garden or nip out to the supermarket. I couldn't wear them, for example, on a mile-long walk to the beach on holiday or on a shopping trip.

macnab · 11/07/2018 10:12

I love them, but I got mine in a pop-up shop at an outlet village so didn't pay full price. They've lasted a couple of years so far and the print on the inside has worn off a little bit but the straps and the rubber are still perfect and they are very comfy. Those leopard print ones are fab OP, I think you should treat yourself!

EnormousDormouse · 11/07/2018 10:17

I resisted for years but got a discount pair and have not bought anything else since.
My 'everyday' pair for work (I live abroad so it really is 'everyday'!) lasted nearly three years. I never buy full price though - you can always get a discount somewhere (Amazon or surfshack)

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 11/07/2018 10:18

Mine have lasted years. They’re more solid and heavier than normal flip flops and really comfortable. My DDs have bought ipanema flip flops and they’re a good alternative and a bit less pricey, still comfortable and heavier than the usual.

Thanks for all the replies, I guess I really do need them!
I'll get hunting for discounted ones.

They are worth it IMO. Stylish, don't rub, last for years, good weight to them.

il0vew1ne · 11/07/2018 11:46

what are the sizes like.
I am a 6 and just looked and have to order a 6-7 which I am sure will be too big. Do they not do single sizes

CointreauVersial · 11/07/2018 11:50

The trouble with Primark flip flops is the sole is quite soft/floppy; they don't last, and worst of all, a couple of times I have tripped over my toes when I have worn them (had quite a painful fall).

Havaianas are much more solidly made. Having said that, I wouldn't pay full price for them. I bought mine at Costco.

Fuckthisforfun · 11/07/2018 12:03

@CointreauVersial I have literally just tripped up the stairs after my Primark cheapies folded over at the toe.
Must be a sign..

I don’t personally find them that comfy. I buy sanuk flip flops instead (made from yoga mats)

Discovered them after a soaking at Disney FL and literally covered miles in them for the 2 weeks. Have since got a further 6 pairs and the originals are only just looking tatty now - 9 years later!

Unihorn · 11/07/2018 14:05

I have Animal Swish flip flops in their 12th year... They've survived 6 two week holidays to Orlando walking about 5-10 miles a day. They're £13.

WonderfulWonders · 11/07/2018 14:08

They definitely last - I've bought them for years and loved them but yesterday I slipped DDs primarks on to go outside and I have to say they were more comfortableShock

Rapidash · 11/07/2018 14:21

See, I think they're no better than cheapo flip flops - they're no different comfort or sturdiness wise than a pair I bought in jack wills for a fiver in a the sale.

They were fine for hanging around the pool/beach on holiday but that's about it.

If you want comfort and support then it has to be Reef cushion flip flops. I walked 14 miles in mine once with no discomfort at the time or afterwards. Best flip flops ever!

TwinkleToes86 · 11/07/2018 14:23

Wow. Your post has hit me hard OP. My much-loved Havaina flip flops went to the great dustbin in the sky a few days ago.

Seriously, Havainas are great flip flops. They don't squeak like other flip flops and are so comfy. I would not pay the price you mentioned though. Mine were (similar) grey leopard print from T K Maxx for around £12. And when I was still wearing them, I saw the same flip flops in brown in T K Maxx and so wish I had bought them now. I 100% recommend looking at T K Maxx.

By the way, the sling bit broke on my right flip flop when I out walking my dog and I had to walk home with one barefoot! Sad Blush But I had worn them probably hundreds of times by that point.

Todamhottoday · 11/07/2018 14:24

Have had them in the past but find the thongs too narrow, dont give much support (well as much as flip flops can) and not that comfortable, and they are defiantly not made as well as they used to be. Did see plenty in TKmaxx when I was back in the UK

I like Impala, but only those with the thicker thongs, lots of good styles as well.

I have a blue pair from M&S that are over 20 years old, you can just make out the St.Micheal stamp, now they are still going and are fab.

Currently wearing a pair from Decathlon which cost 99p

I dont always think you get what you pay for for the bits of plastic that they are.
