Havaiana flip flops.

I keep hearing Havaianas are the Creme de la Creme of the flip flop world. I've been sucked into the website and found leopard print ones that I love.
Are they worth the £23.99 price tag?
How are the any different to my £0.90 Primark flip flops? 😂

I've never bought Havaianas, although one of my workmates swears by them and has several pairs.

Mine are by Ipanema - I think another poster mentioned them further up the thread - and they are by far the most comfortable flipflops I have had. More solid than the cheapos. I've got two pairs and they have lasted for at least 3, and possibly 4, years. Mine are this style, and I thought that the additional strap across the front would irritate me, but it hasn't. I've worn them on holiday and at home and they still look good. I love them.

They really are the mist comfortable flip flops I’ve ever had. I bought a full price pair which were worth it but I also had a pair brought back from Brazil and they were about £5 in GBP.

My only advice is to avoid the lighter colours. My white ones look really grubby.

Just looked at the TKmaxx website and there are 8 different Havaianas, for sale, some nice colours as well.

I do like the green RL ones!

Super shoppers (TV prog) this week did a comparison between Havaianas and Primark. Huge price mark up for the UK market but the Havaianas came out tops in all areas when stress tested - pulled, rubbed etc. So the outcome was they are much better quality but 20 times the price in the UK.

Almostthere15 · 13/07/2018 15:23

They are pretty study and don't rub but they are completely flat which isn't great for me because I have a high arch.

In contrast ipanema are thicker and shaped to the sole which makes them much more comfortable, they are usually cheaper. I have pairs that I've bought overseas (usually spain) ranging from a classic flip flop to a more sandal style and I cannot wear them out even if I wanted to. In contrast Primark ones last the summer if that, so although you'd have to wait a long time to recoup the investment it does feel better instinctively to go for ipanemas

TantricTwist · 13/07/2018 15:24

Primark flip flops literally fall apart after a couple of wears. I have havaianas that have lasted for years and have quite a comfy durable sole.

Deathraystare · 13/07/2018 17:09

I saw the comparison between them and primarni on tv last night. I was shocked how much they cost and how little in their native Brazil! I could not justify paying that much for flip flops anyway.

fuckthisforfun · 13/07/2018 21:46

My tkmaxx shops are rubbish! Only a few pretty ropey designs in massive sizes, I'm a 5 so I imagine they're pretty popular.

I refuse to pay £4.50 postage from havaiana direct so I'm back to the drawing board!

I've been looking at the ipanema ones, they have a few nice styles and are dead cheap so I might just go for them and keep my eyes peeled for bargain havaianas

Ridiculous how much they cost in this country, in Brazil (where they're from) they cost less than a fiver!

Fabricwitch · 13/07/2018 22:01

Big fan! Bought my first pair 5 years and they are still comfy and holding together just fine, a little tatty looking but not bad at all. I bought those ones in TKMaxx and got another pair since in sale in a department store for £7 2 years ago which are just as comfy. I can wear them all day, long walks etc, and they are really comfy!

unintentionalthreadkiller · 13/07/2018 22:27

I've bought a new pair every year for the last ten years. I have ten pairs in different colours that are almost like new and I pretty much wear them every day from spring to autumn. I haven't found anything better.

LinoleumBlownapart · 14/07/2018 06:53

We live in Brazil so we have loads and Ipanemas which are only slightly less sturdy but a good alternative and much better than the flip flops I've seen in other shops in the UK. We are lucky because we have the basic model here, which costs a lot less as they can be quite pricey here too (but not if you're buying in pounds obviously) and my kids love leaving them in various places.
I did find they rubbed when I first started wearing them, but now they are really comfortable and my DH has great feet, which he claims is from growing up in Havaianas.

chickydoo · 14/07/2018 07:09

My favourite pair (very fugly though) are my trusty fit flops. So comfy. Havanias are no where near as soft underfoot

luckycat007 · 14/07/2018 14:40

Off to pick mine up - will report.

Inthetropics · 14/07/2018 14:52

I'm brazilian. Havaianas are very very very cheap here! Around 5 pounds. Everybody uses them. I hate the ones that have thinner slips because they always break earlier than the plain ones with thicker slings. We have tons of flip flop brands bere and Havaianas are better in my opinion.

Inthetropics · 14/07/2018 14:55

If you can, buy the basic model, it's much better than the fancy ones, lasts longer and it'a cheaper.

Tara336 · 14/07/2018 14:59

THey do last ages and stay looking new, but I’ve defected to Ipanema flip flops they are instantly comfy which I can’t say Haviana are

luckycat007 · 14/07/2018 17:06

I've picked mine up.

The verdict: Drumroll!!

I only paid £15 inc p and p for a brand new pair. I love the look of them - they have a sushi design. They are soft enough to walk it, as good as flip flops can be.

The toe bit is a bit uncomfortable. So - as much as I like them, I can't see me walking for miles in them. Therefore if you can get a pair on the cheap - go for it - if not, abstain!!
