Hair straighteners - what do you recommend?

My GHDs have finally given up and I'm bereft... I need to find a replacement ASAP. Do any of you have any recommendations? There are so many to choose from and old threads I've read seem to suggest that GHDs aren't as good as they once were (and that cheaper ones like Remington are just as good, if not better, now).

I've got thick, curly hair and they will get a lot of use!!

Thanks

Cloud nine - it's what I'm going to get as soon as I can afford them!

Thanks - yes, I've heard they're really good. I had thought I'd go for them but I've been looking and there seem to be lots of really well reviewed ones for loads cheaper.

Does anyone have any experience of these ones:
Remington

Cloud Nine original.
I have the GHD b.1bs which still function. A few years back I bought myself a new pair of GHDs thinking they'd be loads better, in a stunning peacock colour, GHD 5s I think.
They were crap. So much worse than my old pair. Didn't grip the hair properly.
Went back to using my old GHDs.

Bought the Cloud 9s after everyone said they were as good as the old GHDs but crucially you can ajust the temp as my hair is now quite damaged after years of straightening.

They are good.

I keep meaning to test the GHDs against the C9s by doing one side of my head with one pair and the other side with the other pair.

I have a Remington pair...they are brilliant...not the same as those but ceramic and were supposedly £90 reduced to £45 in boots. Highly recommended!

My daughter nicked my Remington S3500 straighteners (£18 on Amazon) and took them back to uni, leaving her GHDs at home, as she said the Remington ones are better. She has long, thick, wavy hair.

I am on the market for a good hair straightener. I am leaning towards the GHD series of stuff only because I've heard the brand and know they are high end devices. Those who use GHD state it's the Best Hair straightener. Do you agree, ladies?

I have the new ghd gold styler and really enjoy them. I can still curl my hair with them too - which I couldn’t really do with my old ghd platinum styler.

I tried cloud nines after my oldest pair of GHDs were past there best they broke after a fortnight so I sent them back and got another pair of GHD.

I will only ever use ghds. I love mine. My first pair lasted years. And my second pair are still gonna strong.

Thewindsofchange · 20/07/2018 21:05

I love my corioliss ones. Spent a LOT of time researching. I like that you can change the heat setting.

Had a set of GHDs years ago and they were rubbish. Not hot enough for my curly hair. My old ones were FHI if I remember right and they were excellent. I bought them from Sally's hair and beauty. If you have one of those near you, have a look because they sell lots of products etc usually only salons have. My current ones are Remington, got them half price in Boots about 5 years ago and still going. I also used to have a Remington curling tong and that used to be the best thing to straighten my hair when I had a bob years ago.

CocoaGin70 · 20/07/2018 21:41

Cloud 9. I had a very old and trusty pair of GHDs that my DD broke and I did order a new pair but they were of such awful quality I sent them right back. DD has her own pair now, and they're nothing like the GHDs of yonder.

But my Cloud 9s are great, especially for curling. I'm really pleased with them and they're very solid.

Another vote for cloud nines

Strongbeatsskinny · 21/07/2018 05:38

Another vote for cloud 9 I replaced my two year old GHDs for cloud 9s because the new GHDs were ruining my hair. My cloud 9s are as good as my old GHDs that I’d had about 23 years when they finally stopped working.
