With thanks to @MumsnetHQ for deleting an identifying previous attempt. Flowers

I am a fan of crop haircuts. Like the silver haired model wearing black.

I have been to the hairdresser who cut my hair yesterday before.

Showed her the silver haired lady picture and she cut my hair to my liking.

After a short notice night shift, I got my hair cut yesterday and it's more like the model in white.

In spite of my thick hair, I can see my scalp! 😱

The rush for the haircut is for a job interview on Tuesday morning.

I'm working Monday and there's nowhere open today except in another city which I can't get to as I'm 'fully booked' with stuff to do today.

My hair is currently finger width length at it's longest point and very short at the back and sides.

I'm over 40, overweight, with round and flabby facial features, ginger and short.

Any attempt at make-up will slide off.

Upside, just had a lash tint and lift and brow shape and tint so they're looking good.

The Evey Hammond/Natalie Portman look from V for Vendetta is 'fierce', but I don't have the bone structure visible to pull it off.

How do I style this without looking like I escape from an asylum?

I'm thinking mascara, spf with a light tint and red lip gloss....

Honestly, if your hair looks like the second picture then there is not much styling you can do.
Like the model in the picture I would suggest a flattering outfit with some defined feminine features to redress the balance and some strong eye make up (as much as the weather will allow).

This happened to my friend. No one ever mentioned her hair as it was assumed she had post treatment hair loss and it was growing back! The absolute best thing you can do is wear glasses in a heavy colour (just get clear glass lenses?). It can balance your face. Also you could consider dying your hair darker to give more contrast, luckily it won't take long to grow!

MiniTheMinx · 08/07/2018 13:32

Don't die it darker, pale scalp shows against dark hair more obviously.

I think all you can do is wear a bit of make up especially bold lip colour to make it look a bit softer. Other than that you could try tying a scarf in sort of knot slightly to the side, I've seen others do this, it can look quite nice.

Good luck for the interview.

I have just dyed it with this to cover the grey hair.

Sitting with the conditioner on now.

Thanks for replying.

Lovely colour.

Gingernaut · 08/07/2018 15:32

Thank you MiniTheMinx.

I always feel weird about accepting compliments about the colour, as it's down to no conscious decision I've made about it, but thank you.

Here's a before and after shot. Hopefully there's not much noticeable difference.

After all, I'm trying to cover the greys.....

Waterproof mascara, spf50, red lip gloss, vintage 80s Alexon orange striped blouse with bow neckline and pink Per Una jacket.

I still look like I've escaped from a place with armed guards....Confused

It's your interview today isn't it, I hope it goes well.

Gingernaut · 10/07/2018 08:05

Thanks MiniTheMinx. 😳

I would find that really upsetting so well done for having a sense of humour about it.

How was the interview??

Gingernaut · 11/07/2018 00:06

The interview went well, but I didn't get the job. 😢

Nice hat! Sorry you didn't get the job though.

TheChineseChicken · 11/07/2018 20:44

Onwards and upwards Thanks

MiniTheMinx · 13/07/2018 07:02

Sorry you didn't get the job, I usually tell myself "oh well it probably wasn't the right job for me" next! I like the hat. I love hats, any excuse to wear one.

Gingernaut · 13/07/2018 09:34

Thanks.

I've got a job I hate at the moment, but it affords me the luxury of breathing space to apply for the only job I want.

I've got four days off. I'll try not to wallow.
