Saltwater sandals sizing question

I tried on some SWs today - I’m usually a 4 so requested my size. The sandals I tried were way too long - my toes didn’t even reach the stitching. The shop didn’t have a smaller size and the sales assistant couldn’t explain their sizing system to me.

I’ve printed off the SW guide and that says I need a UK 4 but that’s what I was apparently given today Confused

I can’t remember what was printed on the inside of the shoe, but there was a 5 on the sole.

Any ideas if these were actually a UK4? I want to order some online but can’t be bothered with the faff of returning if they’re not right so I want to be sure.

I'm a 5 and the Saltwater 5s I ordered are also a bit long on me but comfortable and I love them.

I was thinking about getting the tan ones, I like those floral ones but they do look too big. Im wary about ordering online now 🤔

Beamur · 07/07/2018 20:23

I have the tan ones (perfect fit size 6 and love them) bought shiny red ones in end of season sale last year. Same size. Too tight.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 07/07/2018 20:59

Bibi that’s a very similar foot position to the ones I tried. I’d probably trip over the ends!!

I’m not usually a 3 but maybe that’s what I should get. I ended up buying some Fly Egal but they’re a bit of a wedge and I’m not sure they’d be as flexible for dress up or down as Saltwaters. And they’re brown.... not as pretty as the silver Salts...

Was it Office where you tried them as when I ordered from there they were a size bigger, I ordered 8 and I actually got pairs with 9 on the bottom. I needed a 7, (41). ordered 8 as read to get them bigger, Ordered from Office they sent 9 as they resize to what is your actual size. I ordered 8 from a shop in the Peak District and they have 8 on the bottom and fit fine. Hope you are following thisGrin

www.bellsshoes.co.uk/salt-water-m104

Ones with 8 on the bottom fit my size 7(41) perfectly

LightAsTheBreeze · 08/07/2018 07:25

The shop I linked above has a 3 and 4 in stock in silver I would probably order both, its free delivery and returnsSmile

I am a 5/5 to 6. Apparently with saltwater you size up so mine say 7 on the sole. They are really comfy but quite long on the end. I tried my friend's 6 on sole on. I think they fitted better length ways but I wasnt convinced they wouldn't rub as they seemed much snugger so I have stuck with the 7s.

BovrilonToast · 08/07/2018 07:46

I ordered mine from Office, it says somewhere on the page that you should order your normal UK size.

I have very wide feet, it shows you how to stretch them in the box to fit. I've got the tan ones. Love mine, I've barely worn anything else.

BovrilonToast · 08/07/2018 07:47

Oh and your toes are supposed to be inside the stitching for the correct fit.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 08/07/2018 07:50

Thanks everyone.

I was in a little independent shop, it was the only one near me who stocked them.

My toes were nowhere near the stitching, closer to the edge of the top / front if that makes sense! The fit was more like if I was wearing a shoe 1 - 1.5 sizes too big.

I’ll check out the link, thanks!

Im a 4 and my Saltwaters have a 3 on the bottom (I have 4 pairs and they are all the same)

ihearttc · 08/07/2018 08:06

Actually no they don't...they have a 4 on the bottom but I had to order a size 3!

BikeRunSki · 08/07/2018 08:29

I’m between a UK8 and a UK9 . Saltwater 9s fit me perfectly (I was so chuffed, pretty shoes never fit me). Saltwater advice is to size down from your U.K. size. The trouble comes when sellers try to resize for you! Much easier to order from the Saltwater website!

SandunesAndRainclouds · 08/07/2018 08:35

Ok so probably safe to assume that the sandals I chose were a UK4 and too big so order a 3. Or just keep the Fly sandals and not worry about them matching!

I had terrible trouble with the understanding the sizing, thats why I ordered from Bells shoes as they did the free delivery and returns and they were also a bit cheaper. Iirc I ordered both 7 and 8

I have navy ones in the classic style and Fuchsia in the original style. I do feel I need some tan ones though...

Paranormalbouquet · 08/07/2018 08:49

They are US sizing. My size 4 UK have a 5 on the bottom. They are long on me too but so comfortable that I don’t care!

BikeRunSki · 08/07/2018 09:56

They sit between US and UK sizing. They say in their own website that they use their own system. I wear a UK8 or 9, and US10. Saltwater 9 fits me perfectly.

PNGirl · 08/07/2018 11:40

I ordered a UK6 from Office and they sent me a SW7. So as a 4 you should have been given a SW5 which it sounds like you were. It might just be down to the shape of your feet/toes so a SW4/UK3 should work.

Ellapaella · 08/07/2018 11:40

Yes I have the same issue with me but they are comfortable enough. Would just prefer them to come in half sizes as I think half a size smaller would be perfect

Ellapaella · 08/07/2018 11:45

Mine.. just that tiny bit too long I think
