What do Americans wear on the beach?

We are spending a couple of weeks in Cape Cod in August. Having now finally gained the confidence to wear a bikini in France ( where you stand out in a cossie), I am not sure what would be more ‘normal’ in New England. I’ve got a Boden bikini, which is pretty unassuming and am 40, size 10, but wobbly. Would that be about right, too frumpy, or shamelessly immodest?

I have been to the beach in New England. Everyone of every shape and age wears bikinis and swimsuits. Wear whatever you want!

I find that they split into 2 sections, those size 10 and under wear skimpy bikinis. The rest wear more conservative one pieces.

Where we have been there is a lot less older curvy women in bikinis. But there are always exceptions.

I had a feeling the beachwear might be a little more conservative than Southern Europe. Hopefully the Boden mum-kini strikes a happy balance 😉
