Hi
If you have the kit to put the gel nail varnish on, can you remove it or do you need to go to a salon.

I bought a gel remover kit in Tesco, think it was about £15. In the past I'd gone to a salon for removal but it wasn't always convenient, and when I tried regular remover and cotton wool it took ages.
The Tesco kit works really well, it has plastic clips to go over your nails to keep the cotton wool in contact.

You can remove it yourself it does take a bit of time. Use a file and file the gel on the nail. Use acetone - soak cotton pad, place on nail and wrap foil around your finger tip. After 10 minutes unwrap and using a nail scraper scrape off.

You can buy little dishes from chemists to soak your nails in if you cba to wrap and clip soaked pads to the nails. The total nightmare of gettong the gel off is why I hardly ever do my nails with the gel.

You can buy the gel remover off eBay, I got 100 remover pads for about £5

I use these with standard acetone nail varnish remover and cotton pads. Works out a lot cheaper than £10 in the salon.

I used gel remover wraps from Amazon, less faff than soaked cotton wool and foil, then scrape with a metal scraper thing that came with the gel kit. Mostly it just peels off quite easily but the 1st time I did it I scraped too hard and took the top surface off the nails, made a right mess of them so you have to be a bit gentle.

Thank you everyone

I soak cotton pads in nail varnish remover and wrap these over my nails with baco-foil. You have to wait about 15 minutes, but the polish cand then be easily scraped off. I rarely bother with Gel these days as it's just so much hastle to change!!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/07/2018 17:23

Do not scrape a nail, you will ruin the nail doing that.

Soak until the polish peels off and wipe with a damp pad.

MurielsBottom · 07/07/2018 18:25

I totally wrecked my nails doing it myself though. (Unless it was the gel polish itself that damaged my nails)

I'm not sure they will ever recover tbh!

AWhistlingWoman · 07/07/2018 18:36

Same as MurielsBottom my nails looked pretty for three weeks but now I think I've permanently wrecked them after taking the gel off myself :(

itsbritneybiatch · 07/07/2018 19:00

Soak with nail varnish remover with acetone in.

Takes about 15 mins.

Use something like a wooden nail stick or tweezers clamped shut of you have none and scrape away. It's so satisfying.

I just soak my nails in acetone for ten mins or so and scrape it off.
However I only do this if I’m away for two weeks or more. Less and I just go to the salon. I’m away for two weeks now, Day 9 today and they are pristine and not much regrowth so hoping to get home and get them off. But if not I’ll dot em here myself and just file and polish my nails myself.
I hate big gap from growing nails.
