DIY lash tinting no longer working on me

From the age of 15-30 I tinted my lashes at home roughly every six weeks. Always had fantastic results with the Eylure kit or a 30 day mascara tint (can't remember the make). I stopped tinting my lashes for the last ten years and decided to start tinting again. It doesn't work for me anymore. The first time the tint didn't take I assumed that maybe I had oily lashes but I tried again the following day and the tint just doesn't colour my lashes at all. They go really black when the tint is cooking for 10-20 minutes but when I remove the excess dye my lashes are still blonde. What's going on. Has a magic now forbidden ingredient been removed, you know like lead from paint!

If I was a first time user I would just say that I was doing it wrong, but I'm a tinting pro Grin

Same here, I could have written your post.
I think that the regs for ingredients have been tightened, like you say.

BackToTheFuschia7 · 06/07/2018 17:29

How strange. I use refectocil and it still works.

purpleviolets · 06/07/2018 17:38

Refectocil you say? I will have a google.

Tentomidnight which tints have you tried?

This happened to me also

I googled it and the EU have made them change the ingredients.

Apparently the dyelash eyebrow tint is the same as the eyelash was so folk are just using that instead on their lashes

I always wash my eyelashes with soap and water first as well as sometimes if there is anything on them they also don't take very well.

Blackbirdblue30 · 06/07/2018 18:08

THe ones you get in Boots? Yup, they changed the formula a few years ago (due to EU regulations which I assume therefore apply to all brands) and now they hardly work at all. If anyone knows any alternatives, I too would be glad to hear them.

BackToTheFuschia7 · 06/07/2018 18:11

Has this been a recent change in EU regs? Just checked my email and I bought my last tube in August ‘17. It’s the blue black colour.

I was just talking to my sister about this and she had read that a certain ingredient had been taken out of the high street brands. I wonder if a professional product would work. The home kits were always fantastic.

The one I have in my drawer is the
30 day mascara one. I threw out another brand last year because that didn’t work either.
Maybe I’ll try a professional tint..

Bugjune · 06/07/2018 20:33

Another vote for Refectocil. It works better than the old formulation ones from Boots ever did.

Serendipityme · 06/07/2018 20:43

I've had my lashes tinted in salons for years and never actually considered doing it myself. Is it really that easy? I can't imagine that I'll be able to see what I'm doing and tint them at the same time!!! 🤣
And yes I agree that the result, even in salons, isn't as dramatic a result as it used to be.

BigCarrot · 06/07/2018 20:55

I got fed up with the eyelure too so brought a different kit for about £10 on amazon and its great!

purpleviolets · 06/07/2018 20:56

It's really easy tinting yourself. I just mix it up and apply with a disposable mascara wand then relax in the bath for ten minutes, wipe clean and you are done.

Really well timed thread as I was going to buy a high street kit today. I have instead ordered the one BigCarrot has recommended so thank you and fingers crossed it works.

purpleviolets · 07/07/2018 11:12

Flapdoodles let us know how you get on with it. Have you used any tints before?

OP posts:
Flapdoodles · 07/07/2018 17:50

purpleviolets yes I used Eylure home tinting for many years and more recently have been having them tinted in a salon. I will let you know how I get on, I have Amazon Prime so hopefully they will arrive tomorrow so I can do the patch test and then tint on Monday or Tuesday.

MulberryPeony · 07/07/2018 22:00

I thought it was just me! Used to work perfectly now it doesn’t even give the slightest tint. I will have to try another brand.
