Talk to me about pink hair....

I have had an itch for ages to have pink hair. Just because it's fun.
I currently have mousey brown/dark blonde hair with copious blonde highlights. Should I go and get this done professionally or shall I try out some semi-perm home options?
What are the pitfalls? Will it wreck my hair? Will I have to do it every week to maintain it and do i need to get my hair bleached to within and inch of its life to do it properly on the first place?

Any help and suggestions gratefully received! Thanks in advance

I have very dark brown hair and very very bright pink underneath. I have to top up the pink every 2 weeks or so, I use crazy colour Bordeaux. It does stain everything, so yes I do have trashed towels and old pillowcases for when the colour is fresh. I could never have white bedding! I do love it though.

I'd be inclined to get the bleaching done professionally at least.

I went from mid/light brown (dyed) to white blonde/silver in one sitting. Took a bit less than a couple of hours. I was amazed Grin

Then you can do what you want with it afterwards.

Yours is really pretty unsure

I use Bleach London Rose semi permanent dye on my dark blonde/light brown hair. Then I use Bleach London Rose shampoo and conditioner to give it a bit of a boost and keep the colour for longer. The more I use the shampoo and conditioner, the stronger the colour gets. It's always a lovely soft shade of pink - not too in your face. When I'm sick of having pink hair, I just stop using the shampoo and conditioner and it's out within a couple days.

@Unsureneighbour it's gorgeous! Really pretty.

I've been every colour under the sun, but pink has been my favourite.

Like all colours, it will fade, but in my experience, pink always fades out lovely. I actually prefer my colour once it's faded a little.

You'll need to have your hair bleached to as light as possible.
It can be done with minimum damage if your stylist is experienced in bleaching.

I wouldn't suggest doing it at home if you don't have years worth of bleaching experience. You need to know the ins and outs of it or you'll just end up frying your hair and ruining it.

Any time you bleach your hair you will damage it a little. There's no getting around that, however a good stylist will give you treatments that will keep your hair in good condition.

pepper123123 is that the colour as it is fading or your starting point? It is what I want for the summer (teacher so only get fun hair for 6 weeks a year) It is so pretty.

Currently sitting in the bath waiting for the pink dye to soak into my hair Grin

I dye it around every 2 weeks as it had pretty much faded back to blonde but I'm using Bleach London The Big Pink mixed with a load of conditioner. It's quite bright at first but two/three washes later and it's faded to a candy floss pink. Totally worth it coz I absolutely love my pink hair 😊

TheFutureMrsB · 06/07/2018 21:36

That's the colour in the mixing bowl but it's no where near that dark on my hair when rinsed out.

My hair is ombre, bleached by the hairdresser so quite light at the ends. I used Paul Stafford Kiss of Colour Playful pink available in Boots, wash in wash out in a few washes.

I didn't go crazy with it, but it works on bleached hair, not natural blonde. So it had a hint of pink. Really easy to use, wash hair, no conditioner, put in pink, leave 5 mins, wash out.

I loved the subtlety of it.

I have had mine rainbow colours for a few years now. I have it done at the hairdressers and they strip the colour first then apply the Elumen hair dye. It lasts for months and fades to pastel colours - though the pink is the most vibrant when fading. I have mine done 2-3 times a year. I love it and is the best thing I have done with my hair! I currently have 5 colours in it - Dark blue, turquoise, purple, green and a bit of pink (though had more pink last time). This time is the curly pic and last time I had it done is the first pic. Third pic is after a while last time when it starts to fade a little.

Initially I wanted full head but my hairdresser talked me out of it from a maintenance point of view and advised me to have a top layer in my natural colour so when the roots grow it is not noticeable, otherwise I'd be back there ever few weeks. I'm very grateful to her for the advice and has led me to keep it this way for much longer.

I’m blonde and use Bleach London semi permanent Rose colour. I do it every 10days or so. It fades out quickly but is such a pretty shade.

Unsureneighbour · 07/07/2018 08:46

@Colourfulhair that is stunning. I kind of wanted that but have started with the rose gold to see how I get on with it.

Katescurios · 07/07/2018 08:55

It does fade quite quickly, but you can add a little of the colour to your conditioner so you get a top up every time you wash your hair.

I would recommend a separate hair towel and you have to be careful of not getting your hair wet when wearing a light coloured too as it can run.

I loved having pink hair, but looking back at pictures it wasn't a flattering colour on me. Purple or darker colours suit me better.
