Does my hair look shite?

I am NEVER happy with my hair. Unless it’s long but it’s a pain then. I have body image issues and low self esteem and I’m always paranoid that my hair looks awful. I’m always faffing with it. It’s natually in loose curls. What should I do with it, does it look awful?

I probably shouldn't respond cos I have no clue about hair styles, but you sound so down on yourself.. I really like your hair. I'd kill to have curls like that.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 06/07/2018 11:38

I hope it doesn’t look awful because it looks a lot like mine after a recent cut! I think it’s cute! I feel quite french Grin

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 06/07/2018 11:39

Your hair does not look awful at all. It is a gorgeous colour and the waves are lovely.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 06/07/2018 11:42

I think it looks really pretty. Please don't think badly of yourself - you honestly shouldn't.

Thesuzle · 06/07/2018 11:42

Hi
Perhaps get in into very good condition, does the colour need a pep up, do you have any grey? Small tweaks can make all the diff, don’t beat yourself up use the curl it has by doing a bit more styling

Fatted · 06/07/2018 11:45

I've got naturally curly hair too and I understand the pain with it!

Mine is a similar length, although I wear mine in a centre parting. Personally I think this is a nice length because I can let it dry naturally and curly and it doesn't look too unruly. I also like to straighten it if I want it to look a bit sleeker.

I was recently feeling a bit meh about mine so coloured it red and it's made a huge difference to how I feel about it. Maybe try a temporary colour through it or something if you fancy a change?

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 06/07/2018 11:45

Love the curls. Your hair most definitely doesn't look shite!

GodivaEater · 06/07/2018 11:50

Phew, I was honestly terrified of posting the pic so I’m glad people think it looks alright!

I should see a therapist about my appearance paranoia I guess but I’ve had a couple of crap ones in the past and it’s put me off. Comes from old bad relationships including family.

I’m pleased someone thought it looked French, I’m a total Francophile! 🇫🇷

I don’t have any greys, no.

I did dye it a darker brown once but it washed me out. Hmm.

I wouldn’t say it looks shite at all! However (if you want to) you can still make a few changes to make it look more put together.

I’m not loving the side part because it makes the right side of your hair look fine. The left side of your hair looks much more full than the right side. Might be worth switching partings, or going for a centre part to balance your hair?

Your roots lack a bit of volume, seems a bit weighed down. A clarifying shampoo will help to remove product build up. A bit more volume can give you that effortless, cool-girl waves look - with minimal styling effort on your behalf.

Finally I would get a serum for your hair. This will remove potential frizz and define your waves more.

Dontbuymesocks · 06/07/2018 11:54

I love the wave in your hair. It’s gorgeous.
I also think that a centre parting might be worth trying. At the moment, I wonder if the parting is a little too far over onto one side. I think that type of parting is used when people have either a big or small forehead (I know this from personal experience) and that doesn’t look the case for you.

GodivaEater · 06/07/2018 12:14

I want to do a centre parting, I’ve just got to grow out my fringe first. It’s eye length at the moment. I can scoop it up into the side part to disguise it til it’s grown more.

Any serum ideas for fine hair? Products I’ve tried in the past have made my hair wet looking or crunchy.

Your curl pattern is very pretty.

friendlyflicka · 06/07/2018 12:21

I have identical hair to yours - I usually have it longer and in a centre parting. Best products I have found are bumble and bumble curl defining cream, and never any serum. It really weighs my hair down in a limp way. I make sure my hair is in very good condition and just avoid frizz with products and drying. I find the Kerastase resistance ones are brilliant. Also don't like curly girl method because it does the same as serum for me. My hair is too fine for it.

trigger2 · 06/07/2018 12:26

OP my hair is similar to yours, I’ve given in to the curls, get it coloured occasionally and try keep it in good condition. Apart from that there’s not an awful lot else I can do with it :-)

lifeisabeachsometimes · 06/07/2018 12:33

Your hair looks lovely, I would grow it to shoulder length and part in the middle or to the side. Use glossing conditioners for curly hair as it gets longer to keep it in the best condition.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/07/2018 12:46

Your hair looks lovely.

You've slipped a bit with your eyeliner though.

I think it looks lovely. Agree with the others that I'd part it a bit higher, but otherwise I think it's fab.

GodivaEater · 06/07/2018 14:05

I’ve changed my parting to a bit higher up on your advice. Looks better. Thank you all, you truly gave me a boost today.

Try tigi bed head curling jelly oil. Doesn't leave it looking wet,or "scrunchy"...I've recently got it and it's great for defining curls. Your hair looks fab btw!

foxtiger · 06/07/2018 15:35

Mine looks a bit like that in texture, though a different colour. I wish it was curlier and sometimes use either Boots Curl Creme, a salt spray or both to give it a bit more body.

Westwing1 · 06/07/2018 17:51

I agree with poster who said it looked French and cute.

GodivaEater · 06/07/2018 22:20

Thank you so much everyone!
