Just wondered if you can replace the rubber sole? If you can, how much does it cost? Thanks.

Yes you can as long as they are not worn down to the cork. Take to a local cobblers (Timpsons may be able to help but I used a small independent cobbler). Did this a few years ago and I think it cost me £15; still cheaper than a new pair.

Yes I've had Birkenstocks resoled (the rubber bit, not the cork bit) several times. Sometimes I had the whole rubber sole replaced and some times they just replaced the heel bit.
Make sure they have the proper Birkenstock sole, rather than just using a generic piece of rubber.

I LOVE mumsnet. This never would have occurred to me!! I have a pair that I thought had died a death but apparently not! Incidentally I did replace them so I have a new pair now and I got them from TKMaxx for about £25 so not much more than the cost of resoling. Think I'm going to have to take the old ones to get fixed now! So glad I didn't throw them away.
