Please help me find a summer dress

I’m probably being too fussy but I can’t find anything that I like. I’d love a summery dress that meets these criteria.

Thick straps to hide thick bra straps.
Elasticated waist or belt or even empire line.
Cotton or viscose but not polyester.
Not yellow, orange, nude, blush, peach or gold as they don’t suit me at all.
Preferably midi length. Could manage knee length or a tiny bit shorter.
A straightish skirt bit that doesn’t flare out too much.

Help please.

Seasalt have some that would fit your criteria. They also have the good sense to offer at least some in different lengths.

Oliver bonas has some lovely summer dresses in at the moment. I’m loving these ones and I think they meet your criteria

Thanks. I like some on the Oliver bonas website though they are a bit more than I wanted to pay.
Not so keen on the seasalt colours .

Have you had a look at Fat Face?

Ive just ordered this www.hush-uk.com/m/womenswear/daywear/dresses_skirts/kensington_shirt_dress_stars_scuba.htm.

And l have this which has had a ton of compliments. People stop me in the street to ask about it! m.zara.com/uk/en/striped-dress-with-floral-detailing-p00881334.html?v1=6450239&v2=1074600.

I sewed up the side splits a bit. Really comfortable

I’ve just been shopping and found nothing I like. Anything close to what I’m after has a huge billowing skirt or turns out to be culottes.
I really want straps rather than a closed top half.

This dress from Dorothy Perkins is surprisingly nice on.

this dress

I'm in my 40s. I got it in the tall so it is just on the knee. It's 95% cotton. Don't be put off by the ruffle straps. They hide bra straps and don't look very ruffley when on. I ordered in my normal size and it is well tailored around the bust with the waist band in a flattering place with a skimming skirt. It comes in other colours/patterns/stripes. I just ordered a second one as I have struggled to buy strappy summer dresses for several years

They have restricted sizes left on theNewLook site but you may find in a store, 95% cotton 5% linen

I've seen ones meeting this description in H&M and New Look, and a few in Warehouse but crossing at the back - warning about Oliver Bonas the sizing is huge, ordered one of the thick strap dresses from there and it was about two sizes too big

puglife15 · 06/07/2018 18:58

Also i think Emily and Fin do a style similar to what you're looking for

I’ve got something from Hush in pale green that almost fits the bill, but it is polyester. Bought it before I realised. It’s lovely and floaty and doesn’t have that sweaty feel that polyester normally does. Might be worth a try? Also, not sure why the model’s wearing the waist so low so that it’s on display, it sits higher on me and is almost hidden.

It has little poppered ties in the shoulders to clip your straps to your bra as well, so no slippage during the day.
