What is the American for blow dry?

This sounds dumb... but I am going to the US for work for a couple of weeks. I'll want to find a hairdresser there close to my hotel for a blow dry. I usually get a "boho" blow dry. Will they know what I mean when I ask for this?? I'm just worried I'll come out with big Republican wife hair...

They would say they are getting their hair "blown out" but im not sure what the boho equivalent would be. Could you get a pic and take the style you like with you?

NapQueen · 04/07/2018 16:08

This is called a mai tai blow out if this is what a boho blow dry is

I've got nothing to add but "big Republican wife hair" made me chuckle! 😀

ComposeYourself · 04/07/2018 16:17

And I know you know what I mean by that! Grin

Well best thing would be to have some photos on hand to show them on your phone so you’ll both be on the same page

I'm American. Blow dry or blow out. I always ask for a blow dry. But I don't know what a boho is.

heatwave2018 · 04/07/2018 17:09

So your job involves blowing drying? Surely that means it's a blow job

SenecaFalls · 04/07/2018 17:11

Big Republican wife hair should not be a problem unless you are going to Texas.

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/07/2018 17:13

I also laughed at the big republican wife hair.
Depending where you're going and why it could be a good thing?

Not going to Texas but my hair does have a tendency to turn into a big blowdried mushroom - the boho (pic posted above) seems to keep it a bit sleeker and more modern, less middle aged.

Will have the pics to hand. Thanks all!

You laugh at Republican hair, but I ended up with that after a bad experience at a branch of DryBar in NYC Angry Not a good look

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/07/2018 23:11

'Big blow dried mushroom'.
My hair does that without the blow dry, I've to constantly use straighteners to fight it.
And then tongs and curly things so it's not so straight.
Ugh, mushroom bloody hair is a twat.

ComposeYourself · 04/07/2018 23:41

Legolammb- that's what I'm afraid of and why I hate trying out new hairdressers in new countries who just do things differently. Was hoping there was some magic word that would make them go- aha! We know what you mean.

I know I should be assertive at hairdressers but so often I just sit there quietly seething while seeing my hair get more mushroomy and middle aged. When what I want is sleek and sexy!!!

Lego I know someone that happened to as well! I'd heard brilliant things about them so was all set to try them out when I was there but she was all "No! You will look like you present the news on Fox." Pretty sure that's a bad thing so I skipped it. They have a menu though so not sure how they get it so wrong.
