Off to see DH for a month soon and I’m wondering what the dress code is in reality for visitors. Has anyone any experience? I’m taking DD10 and we are staying in a hotel. Any tips welcome.

Qatar will be very hot. And the dress code is at the Islamic end of the ME spectrum, so think modest dressing, especially if you leave the hotel. I've never been but family and friends have lived there, and I think they'd say light, loose and not see through, with shoulders and knees covered. And be prepared for fierce air-conditioning.

I visited a few weeks ago. Shoulders and knees covered when out and about, but you are fine in and around the hotel in shorts/strappy tops/swimwear.

I’ve spent a lot of time there on business. It’s a pretty friendly place and OK for women (by Gulf standards). The business environment was quite female friendly. I had a few dresses that were high neckline, knee length and long sleeved but very lightweight fabric plus linen trousers and tunics. To be honest, I’m incredibly fair skinned so I need to cover up in the sun anyway. I would definitely take a cardigan though, as PP said the air con is ferocious!

Also, if you are visiting Doha, the museums are worth a look. There’s some amazing Islamic art and a lot of explanation of the links between maths and art.

By August the humidity will have kicked in making it even more unpleasant. Looser clothing in natural fibers will be more comfortable. Cover shoulders and knees.

Thanks Mercurial 123. I have wondered about the humidity...
