Hello all! This far, I have only lurked here but I would really love some advice. I have a job interview for a council position after being a SAHM for many years. I have not the faintest clue what to wear! I'm 40, 5' 8 and size 14. I'd be so so grateful for any advice! Thank you. Oh PS - it's v last minute, on Thurs, so I really need to order this evening with next day delivery.

Blazer, blouse, skirt, black tights and black shoes works for most job interviews

Blouse & skirt/black trousers... ASOS has some nice blouses in atm :)

I’d go smart dress with a jacket/blazer and as it’s local government so probably quite formal, nude tights and court shoes. Alternatively a skirt/trousers with a smart top and jacket. Personally I’m not a fan of a collared blouse under a suit jacket as I think it looks really dated so I’d avoid that. Whatever you decide good luck though Grin

I was interviewing today in the heat.
The candidates that stood out style wise were.
Navy shift dress with blush short sleeved jacket and kitten heels.
White linen blouse, black pencil skirt and black heels.
Black tea dress with a black sleeveless jacket, flawless make up, black and blush loafers and bag.

Only 2 of the women wore tights but most people were covered to mid calf by trousers, dress or skirt.

What's your budget OP
I bought a midi length polka dot dress from whistles for a recent interview - long enough that I didn't need tights but also very 'classic '

thedayismine · 03/07/2018 17:16

Ps I often order from the ' label ' section on next as they do next day delivery if you order by midnight !

I wouldn’t expect candidates to be wearing tights in this weather - that’s insane to me. A council is not going to be anywhere near as formal as a corporate environment. If I was being interviewed i’d look for a smart dress or midi skirt with a blouse or simple shell top. Plain fabric in a classic style or with some discrete print but nothing garish. I’d be looking for some sleeve for myself but I don’t like my upper arms so I tend to want them covered. I would avoid a bog standard suit with a collared shirt as it’s frumpsville as far as I’m concerned.

If it's aircon where you work like an office then tights will be fine. I wore tights to a 25 degree interview as work had aircon
