Style help - for an ugly duckling working on being a swan

Hi all,
I’ve always been overweight - school was fine, maybe uni I was jut slightly overweigth and then went I tried work I added about 1-2kg/2-4pounds every year until I ended up
obese (BMI 42.5 at my highest). I finally decided to address it this year. I have lost 3 stone and obviously have more to lose, but I know it’s a work in progress. I realistic expect it to take me until the end of 2019 to achieve my goal.

Whilst I would love it to be sooner, I have made my peace with it and I am focusing on trying to improve myself style-wise along the way. I am currently on holidays with friends and have been rudely awoken to the fact that I have completely let myself go in terms of clothes or looking good. Each day they have a lovely outfit - simple, appropriate for the day’s activities and fashionable. My packing mindset appears to be more of interchangeable shorts and t-shirts and practical outfits, rather than style. They aren’t impractical fashion plates! Just women who obviously have an excellent sense of style and self worth to maintain it even on a traveling holiday.

Now I am getting to thinner and feel more like I am worth the trouble of looking nice, I need to learn style.....any help on where to start?

Well done on your weight loss!

A friend of mine always looks stylish and I've put it down to the following:

She dresses for her shape
She knows how to accessorise eg jazzing up a plain dress with a bold necklace
She has shiny, healthy looking hair and clear skin, neither of which need much added so gives her a confident, natural vibe

I've gone clothes shopping with her a few times and she's always picked out things for me I would never have chosen as I'm so stuck in a colour and style rut, so maybe do something like that with a friend?

Good luck on your weight loss journey!

Thanks ColdShoulder I think you are right about taking care of myself - shiny hair, good skin etc.

I’ve also been googling, and I think I need to find a style I like, and buy clothes all in keeping with that style/atonal colours. I’m so impressed with the women I am in holidays with! I am too old and should know better, but it’s like I missed a style class when I was too busy being overweight and just desperate to find something that fit!

You're not alone, I've spent years being overweight, have recently lost a lot and need new clothes but have never mastered style! I've never been good at accessorising, I just forget to do it and it doesn't occur to me to buy accessories. Also struggle putting shoes with outfits and tops with bottoms.

I'd love shiny hair...

And these style classes are advanced stuff! I have noticed that one women only has earth toned clothes (ad white and black). So everything she packs goes together....and all shoes and bags and jewelery all match as they fit in with the theme. It looks amazing, but it’s a big commitment to shopping and a theme!
