Me + Em - is it worth the money?

jilldoyoulikeowls · 03/07/2018 10:31

Currently fawning over a few things in the Me + Em catalogue, is it worth the money?

I usually shop in a more Cos price bracket, so wondering if the £189 trousers are justifiable, they wash well etc etc.

Any other recommendations would be gratefully accepted!

I have a red two piece outfit with similar style trousers. I look amazing in it even if I do say so myself and I am middle-aged. I’ve worn the top by itself - wash and hang it, no need to iron. I am looking at the same catalogue and have a long list.

jilldoyoulikeowls · 03/07/2018 10:45

@Raederle very tempting! I have some similar from Cos in black without the button on the bottom of the leg, and I love them, had them for years and still feel great in them.

This catalogue is dangerous. I never thought I'd be keen on a side stripe on either skirt or trousers, and they're all on my list!

I like the clothes a lot and tend to try and ignore the prices Blush
I was in one of the London shops and ended up buying some of their trousers with stripes (the sales assistant was REALLY good) and they hung in my wardrobe unworn for ages. I then decided to wear them and needless to say, love them and are tempted to buy more. They are expensive but look and feel great.
I do like a lot of their stuff and have never been disappointed with the quality. I posted a question a few weeks ago asking about the tracksuit bottoms as they are £90 odd and I do struggle with that. I’m avoiding going into one of their shops though as I know I’ll end up trying them on and then inevitably getting them.

AnnaNimmity · 03/07/2018 13:13

I really like the clothes too, but generally try to wait for the sales unless I really love them. I have bought a few things full price recently.

The only thing I'd say is that, for me, some of the tops are very short - I'm tall and long bodied and they aren't long enough on me.

jilldoyoulikeowls · 03/07/2018 17:14

Great, thank you both. Luckily I'm in Yorkshire and can avoid such temptations! However I'll keep my eyes peeled online for a sale.

The catalogues are so sneaky, I'd never actively go to their website, and here I am, 6 hours later and still dreaming of £189 mustard trousers..

I think the quality is excellent. I have 2 tops bought in the sale and the fabric still looks brand new.

Mercurial123 · 03/07/2018 18:35

I find the quality variable. Their Jersey tops are really lovely, not so much a couple of shirts I got in the sales they were impossible to iron.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 03/07/2018 20:22

Alas Jill living in Yorkshire hasn’t stopped me... Wink
my brochure arrived today and I’m equally hooked.

FlorenceLyons · 03/07/2018 22:04

I was drooling over those same trousers earlier. Who'd have thought a pair of mustard trousers could cause such lust?!

I have a few Me+Em pieces - almost all bought in their (very good) sales. The quality does seem excellent.

Withdrawn at poster's request.

I was thinking just that as I’m that age and have been on a bit of a clothing splurge recently - I’ve bought from Me + Em, Rag & Bone, Hush, Jigsaw and whistles. Not cheap but I’ve done my time on cheaper clothes that easily lose their shape and colour (although Hush still seems to be a bit hit and miss in that area).

stringbean · 04/07/2018 08:13

I have a few Me & Em dresses and two beautiful long merino cardigans - all bought in the sale. The quality is fantastic but I'm conscious that the clothes are modelled on very thin flat-chested women and don't always translate as well to someone with boobs/curves! As another poster says, the tops are on the short side - I'm 5'8 with long body so have had to return them for this reason. I'm usually happy to wait for the sales but if I really loved something I'd pay full price - a lot of items get a write-up in the fashion press and don't stay in stock for long.

mammmamia · 04/07/2018 08:19

I have just placed my first order with them. Long been wanting to order but found the prices a bit too much. I’ve ordered a few things in the sale so will post back when they arrive.
I’ve just turned 40 and trying for the last few years to up my game in the clothes quality stakes so looking forward to trying these.

Do they have discount codes ever?

JessiCake · 04/07/2018 09:26

Oh, blooming heck, OP, what have you done to me??? I didn't even know about Me &Em and now I've just spent an hour trying to sit on my hands and NOT BUY ANYTHING off the website... it's beautiful stuff, I've not seen a collection I've liked as much anywhere else in ages. Honestly I could stick a pin anywhere and love whatever I'd accidentally chosen.

But it's pricey!!!

I bet it's worth it, but even in the sale most of the prices are out of my current price range. In the olden days, pre-DD and when I had more cash, I'd have gone mad!!

tbf there are some lovely tops that are really not too horrifically pricey in the sale but I can't even justify those, really, as I have plenty of tops! I need dresses, but the dresses are over my budget.

Worth saving for, though!!

EmmaStone · 04/07/2018 11:07

I've been buying from Me&Em for a quite a few years, and the quality is almost always amazing. I've always bought in the sale, which used to be very bargainous. The prices have ramped up and the bargains are few and far between.

I've been looking at their side stripe trousers forever, but can't bring myself to pay full price, and they're rarely in the sale (in my size). Ebay alert it is...

Abra1de · 04/07/2018 11:10

Me + Em is cheap on eBay and Facebook marketplace. I’ve been trying to sell a light blush s10 jersey layering top with lacy collar and cuffs, worn twice. For £5. For about six months now. No takers. It’s still quite niche. Bargains to be had preloved.

Abra1de · 04/07/2018 11:11

Sorry it was £9.

Swimminguphill · 04/07/2018 11:29

I really really rate their knitwear. It washes brilliantly - unless you are my husband and stick it all in a cotton wash at 60 degrees (referred to in our house as the great knitwear massacre of 2016). The trousers are good quality but I have had issues with zips and after lots of wear (e.g. 4 years of work trousers) they have started to pill. However I always buy in the sale. Only disappointing thing has been the jersey shirt that got holes above the cuff & didn’t wash brilliantly.

Skimbleskanks · 01/09/2018 07:14

What's their sizing like? I'm a 42 in &other stories.

PrimalLass · 01/09/2018 08:44

I have a lovely dress from there and feel great in it.

I currently have sale things in the basket.
