Gel nails at home?

SemiAquaticEggLayingMammal · 01/07/2018 12:08

Saw another thread mentioning kits to do your own nails at home. I have shellac removed/re-applied every fortnight at a salon, have been doing this for about a year and my nails are now lovely and long/strong/nice shape etc.

But it obviously costs a fortune in the long run!

Has anyone achieved similar long-wearing results from home? If so what product did you use?

I used sensationail kit and UV lamp for the basic stuff, eg top coat, to get started originally, and now use a range of gel nail products. I have a lot of Sensationail polishes and a lot of cheapo ones from Amazon, I like a brand called SexyMix Grin cheap and long wearing. As long as you apply the product in a good way (easy when you get the hang of it) you can get 2-3 weeks wear easily Smile

Boots often have the sensationail kit on offer!

Ive also got the Sensationail kit from Boots. You get top/base coat, a primer, a pack of wipes and alcohol solution and one colour along with all the UV light bits. Works well, I have a few extra polish colours from BlueSky.
Lasts for ages, hardly ever chips and I only have to redo every fortnight because the polish starts to noticeably grow out from the base of the nail. I generally give the tips a little top up after a week as it can wear off slightly but I suspect no one apart from me would actually notice.

I've had an NYK lamp for a couple of years and love it. Lasts 2 weeks then my nails have grown too long - so exactly the same as salon.

I’ve just bought the sensational kit for under £40 on amazon.
