Backpack that's not a laptop bag

I'm terminally unfashionable wrt handbags, and at the moment have a black cross-body back bag that's supposed to stop my lower back aching but doesn't as it weighs a ton and all the weight is on one shoulder.

I've decided a backpack would be better for my back but I don't want a frumpy thing again or a massive thing that I could carry my laptop and lunch in. Should fit an iPad, a makeup bag, hand cream, sunglasses, hankies, a phone, headphones, wallet and some keys.

I quite like this Kate Spade one but I'm a bit worried it's too small and things might fall out. Would prefer more internal pockets too. I do like the clean lines though.

Any other suggestions?

I love Kipling bags. They all have pockets, key ring, etc. and they are light!!! My daughter has a lovely backpack from Kipling, it feets iPad, glasses, headphones, water bottle, purse, some small bits and still looks smart.

I've just spent the last couple of days looking for a backpack. I chose an Eastpak one in the end, but really liked the look of MiPac and Daxine. In fairness, I was looking for a roll top one, not too big, but not one that looked like I was going camping!

Thanks - realised I forgot to say that it should be leather as I think it looks good for years and more of a handbag than a backpack IYSWIM - smart enough to take to a restaurant.

I've seen some that convert from backpack to shoulder bag which might be nice...

That grey one is gorgeous, this is leather and is back/handbag

I have this in silver miatui.com/collections/maya-backpack/products/maya-backpack-multiple-colours which I really like. I've had lots of compliments since I bought it.

Kipling aren’t leather but do stay smart for years: I have a black handbag that is still smart 15 years on. I also have an orla keilly handbag that isn’t leather but is still smart a decade down the line, so both could be worth a look. Kipling is more casual though.

Depends whether the weight is a deal breaker. Leather will be heavier. The Kipling or Mia Tui backpacks are lighter and easier on the back

Good point, and it sounds as though they stay smart so I'll take a look. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think it might be a bit small for everything you want to put in.
I have the first one on this Radley link. Not leather, but has been commented on by a couple of people who are more fashion conscious than me! I also don't have it in bright pink.

I can fit in it - 2 tablets, a jumper, a bottle of water, wallet and keys.
