I've always avoided next like the plague as I hate the manmadd fibres and what I consider to be dated and naff workwear. However I've heard they do some good bits like jeans - does anyone have any recommendations as I feel like I might be missing out!!

I popped in the other day and was surprised at how nice some bits are at the moment compared to past seasons. They have some good sandals and casual tops.

IwankaTramp · 27/06/2018 19:41

I find them good for basics like pull on jersey denim leggings, long line vests and some of their casual boots. Also good is the make-up and perfume.

Ikeameatballs · 27/06/2018 19:46

I like their shoes but tried to buy smart/casual workwear there last week and failed. Just nothing that grabbed me or at least nothing that looked like it hadn’t been sold there for the past 10 years. I can’t describe it really, not dated as such, just not fresh. I liked one casual fine knit top in a yolk-yellow with a slogan on but not anywhere near my size so I gave up.

CointreauVersial · 27/06/2018 21:37

It's like anywhere else - there is nice stuff, and there is horrid stuff. Just go to a store and have a rummage.

LightAsTheBreeze · 28/06/2018 07:14

Its a bit like M&S, there is sometimes the odd gem in amongst all the black work trousers and polyester, I get jeans from there and the chinos look nice but they don't fit me properly, some cardigans are OK.

The summer sale is most likely on 7th July so a lot of stuff will be half price then anyway

ThenCameTheFools · 28/06/2018 08:39

I took ownership of 4 pairs of trousers that look great on the website, are absolute shite in real life and are all going back.

I knew I had never found anything nice in Next and still the website pics sucked me in.

SoddingUnicorns · 28/06/2018 08:45

I like their skinny jeans and plain tshirts with a pocket. I’m not sure I actually own any other daytime clothes Blush

Jeans are a PITA for me as I have skinny legs but a thick waist and bloated stomach (IBS and 3 babies), so in other shops if I buy to fit my waist they’re massive in the legs, but Next don’t do that.

Dingodollarman Their jeans are great but you'd be better off looking at their website for the full range rather than in store. I'm pear shaped but they do a great pair that actually fit me in the waist as well as the hips.

I have great fondness for Next because I grew up with them in the 80s and then watched them go downmarket with poor quality and fabrics. I've had the Directory since the beginning and tend to prefer that to the shops as mine is very small and their customer service has always been great in my experience. Agree with LuxuryWoman that they now seem to be upping their game and I've bought some great pieces from there again over the last couple of years and they seem to be doing more natural fibres too.

Maxi skirts, cardigans and this year a lovely cotton stripe dress which has been a godsend in this warm weather but smart enough for work. Last winter they did some nice cashmere too. Check out their vest tops and long sleeve tops in a rainbow of colours as well as their T-shirts and shoes as their basics are imho good quality and value for money on the whole.

Budesonide · 28/06/2018 20:44

I buy the following: cup sized bikinis (excellent value), parallel leg linen trousers, vest tops, denim shorts, shoes & boots, underwear and socks.

Also, just bought a lovely bright pink linen shirt recently.

There is however a lot of synthetic 'shite'.

IggyAce · 28/06/2018 20:52

I got a lovely pair of straight denim jeans 100% cotton that are perfect for the summer. Also like their basic t-shirts however they don’t seem to have standard sizing across the colours so recommend you try them on. The navy coloured one I had to get a size smaller and the grey I would have needed to go up a size.

Jeans, linens, chinos, sandals, basic vests and t-shirts and the jersey dresses. All fit well, wash well and are reasonably priced.

sweetboykit · 28/06/2018 21:12

Next jeans are the only ones that fit me. I like their linen summer dresses. There is a lot of polyester to sift through.

mnahmnah · 28/06/2018 21:13

I rarely see anything I like in the shop, but I get quite a lot from the directory. A much wider range in there and some much more stylish things.

LightAsTheBreeze · 29/06/2018 13:59

I bough some nice denim look smartish trousers, they are a bit on the short side but I think they are meant to be and are very comfortable and look nice with sandals, I bought XL which is my correct length and they look like they do on the model, the thing with this length is you have to be careful with what shoes you wear but they seem to suit my flat strappy sandals.

HRTpatch · 29/06/2018 14:02

I order their Tall range which is hit and miss size wise. Cotton chinos good and have had some nice cotton tops.

dontcallmelen · 29/06/2018 17:12

Linen dresses are good, also the linen tshirts are really good, I also got a really nice stripey cotton skirt a few weeks ago.
Jeans don’t fit me always come up really big on the waist & I find the cut a bit weird, same with the shorts.
Shoes/sandals can be pretty good.
