Midi dress with trainers

I got a green wrap dress in the oasis sale today. It's a midi length hitting me mid calf. I'm short and have a thick cankle so this isn't the best length for me but it's practical and a good colour and handy for work in hot weather. It's not awful by any stretch just not my best.

I want to see if I can funk it up a bit and wear with trainers - either white superstars or some leopard print Velcro numbers. Does this sound stupid (remembering the thick ankle).

I often wear this length dress with white Converse. Looks good, imo.

I went for it with the leopard print. Damn I'm comfy!

I asked dh for his views - without the trainers 'oh you look glam today'

With the trainers 'oh, I guess you look like youHmm'

In all honesty it's not quite right but like I say, damn it's comfy!

I've got a few midi dresses which I wear with Converse/trainers.

I love the look!

I’m sure you look fine - but I am very, very puzzled by the buying of a dress you don’t love more than oxygen. Why?

Scribblegirl · 26/06/2018 08:55

Read a great article in the Evening Standard about this a week or so ago, I’ll see if I can find it...

I think if you are skinny and tall or skinny and petite it will look good.
If you are tall and large you can get aw with it.
If you are small and plump it's just not a good look imho.

rightknockered · 26/06/2018 11:53

I think it looks better with 'dad' trainers. I have Nike Air max 97's and 95s. Really want a pair of Adidas Falcons.

JeffJarrett · 26/06/2018 12:18

I always wear converse with Midi dresses and have a good range of styles/colours to match.

banivani · 26/06/2018 21:24

God dammit, dress sounded lovely so popped on website, sold out in all relevant sizes :(

Are you me Philis? I was contemplating this issue as I clicked on your thread, seeking reassurance that I wouldnt look like a complete tool in a dress and trainer combo. I have a thing about my less-than-perfect legs and, in particular, my thick ankles. I somehow think that, if I wear any leg exposing outfit, people will be fixated by my awful legs and whisper to each other about my ankles. I know, its ridiculousand I am so fed up of this keeping me from being comfortable in the summer. I cant tolerate jeans anymore in the current weather and I want to be comfortable in Italy this summer.

I taking your lead and need to just now decide on which trainers. The v10s are a bit beyond my budget so Im thinking white leather supergra classics.

TrueBlue22 · 26/06/2018 22:06

Superga, Veja, stan smiths and converse are all great options for midi dresses. I love trainers and midi dresses Grin

My summer uniform is midi dresses or skirt/top (or culottes) with trainers. I have black Stan Smiths, gold Nikes, white Stan Smiths, leopard print Nikes, and white Supergas. I’m 5ft 6 and a size 10, so not tall or skinny.

MrsMozart · 26/06/2018 22:38

On the back of this thread I too have decided to embrace my tree trunks and ordered a pair of Converse to wear with midi lenghth skirts and dresses Grin
