I will need a dress for a funeral

BikeRunSki · 24/06/2018 21:18

A very close relative is very ill. He has made his funeral plans- everything but the date. I will move Heaven abd high water to get there. We expect this to be on the next month. I, and this relative, are at peace with this.

It will be a funeral where black clothing is expected. I do not really wear black. I have one pair of “work” black culottes in my wardrobe, which are thick fabric - too thick for summer. I don’t really like tailoring as I have a very long back waists on dress are always too high, waists on trousers too low and jackets/shirts always too short. But i’m not tall enough for Long Tall Sally!

I’d like a semi structuredvshirt dress type of thing, black. A white pattern would be nice. I’m size 14/16; 5’8”, fair hair/blue eyes. Don’t wear heels. Don’t have any either. Hate florals.

Would this work?

I found this at John Lewis. What do you think?. https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-tipped-shift-dress-black/p3392987?sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

That dress is very far out of my comfort zone, but thank you MrsRansayscat.

I forgot to mention the size 9 feet. I have Black Clark’s brogues or pixie ankle boots. Ondnif these will hace to do, and finding anything else is not a very likely.

This, although it may be a bit too floral, but it's a good price

So sorry OP.
Do you mean something like these? I imagine either shoes would work depending on your preference

Thank you Gymntonic. Those H&M dresses would be perfect if they were not sold out in my size.

Perhaps with a proper belt instead of the ties?

So sorry to hear about your relative.

Here are a couple of suggestions:
check
sleeveless

BigFatBloomers · 24/06/2018 23:35

Also, just in case you wanted different shoes, zalando has quite a few pairs in size 9

Spam88 · 24/06/2018 23:43

So sorry OP Thanks

I'm rubbish at this stuff, but just wanted to add that H&M restock all the time so maybe just check back for the next few days? You can also get free postage if you become a club member (which is free).

BikeRunSki · 25/06/2018 07:03

Thank you fir all your help folks.
It is a really bizarre situation to be in. Kind of like waiting for a baby, but sad. And at least with babies there is an ultimately an end dare. We will all be devasted when it happens, but we will survive.

Thanks for the shoe links too.
I rather like the sleeveless linen dress from Warehouse.

I'm sure either of your own pairs of shoes will be perfectly acceptablewuth whatever dress you choose. However, I'm a size 9 too and Magnus shoes were recommended on here recently. They might be of some use to you at some point.
Wishing you and your family peace.

Pythonesque · 25/06/2018 07:58

There do seem to be a lot more shoes in size 9, at least in theory, nowadays.

As for what to wear, when my Dad died a couple of years ago - overseas, also needed summer weather clothes - I tried a Debenhams personal shopper. I actually ended up in dark navy as I also hardly ever wear black. Would dark navy be an option for you do you think?

BikeRunSki · 25/06/2018 09:55

In theory Pytgonrsque. Many are either EU42 which isn’t really a 9 (and was largely sold as a UK8 until a few years ago), or a stretched 8, which is longer but not wider. I’m actually OK for shoes.

Wondering if I can wear navy or charcoal grey, which comprises about 75% of my existing wardrobe. I don’t have much black because it really doesn’t suit me.

Redglitter · 25/06/2018 09:59

Navy or grey will be absolutely fine. Black isn't compulsory. I'd go for something you already have
