What to wear to a school awards night?

My son’s school is having an awards night, my son will be receiving an award. It’s quite a posh night, guest speaker, a bit of fundraising that kind of thing.

I don’t think I have anything suitable! I don’t even know what suitable is!

If not in school uniform, then smart shirt and trousers/ nice jeans for DS.

If you want to get into the spirit of things, then summer dress for you, suit for OH. However, school shouldn't bat an eyelid what you wear so long as you're there and not wearing something outrageous or filthy.

If you are indoors in a school hall it will get horribly hot; if you are outside it may get a bit nippy as the evening goes on.

Simple. summer dress with wedges and a cardigan

Possibly depends on what type of school it is. For a bog standard comp, I'd say keep it more smart casual. Dark jeans and shoes (not trainers) and open neck shirt for men. Nothing too dressed up for women. Something you'd wear for a Sunday lunch out rather than going to the supermarket or a Friday night in town.

Sorry I should have clarified, I meant me. My son has to wear his school uniform.

Summer dress sounds good, would flip flops be ok? I’m recovering from an injury and can’t do heels if any sort at the moment.

I think that’s my problem, I have casual clothes, jeans t- shirts etc. or going out clothes, evening dresses etc. Not too much in the middle.

I'd probably avoid flip flops. Lots of people (capacity crowd) squeezed into a small space means you might be stood on. No need for heels, just avoid trainers. And it will be hot! Make sure you can take off a layer without compromising your modesty :-)

Ballet flats?
