Help! 3 hours tomorrow morning to buy posh trousers..

Help!! Got a black tie do next week and am going for the butch look with killer heels. Got the top half - a plain black, structured top with gold buttons on cuffs. Now I've got three hours left in which to acquire trousers. Trouser wise I need size 16/18, slim legged, and nothing too hot or itchy that's going to turn me into a sweaty blob. Bonus ball would be some kind of poncy piping down the outside leg (gold? black?) but frankly I'd settle for anything nice that fits and looks relatively posh. I'm in London for work and spent three precious hours today in Oxford Street weeping in changing rooms in Frasers, Lewis's and, in desperation, Selfridges. I have tried on the entire stock of Hush, Boden, Linea etc - nothing is working. I have three more hours in central London tomorrow and if I don't find anything, I'm fecked. Help. Where do I go? (Also looking for gold oversized clutch and green/gold/bright heels but can do them on the weekend if necessary - the trousers are the priority).

have you tried the tailored ladies “suit” section in Next or monsoon. Depending on material can be very good.

AdelesBeard · 20/06/2018 21:39

Actually, no I haven't! I'll put them on my list! I think half the problem today was I was looking at stuff that didn't go above a size 14 which was beyond depressing! I never buy posh or work trousers (I've a very scruffy job and live in jeans) so this is a new world for me!

Have you tried Next, River island etc?

Marks and spencer ankle grazer slim fit trousers are really lovely on. I own several pairs in black and navy and wear with heels for work. Just 29.50 as well!

AdelesBeard · 20/06/2018 21:44

Looked in River Island but didn't see anything, also cause I think I need something a bit more structured to contain me!! But will look there again tomorrow along with Next. I saw a lovely pair in jigsaw but they were itchy and a bit tight, as well as ££££ but tbh I'm at the point where I'd break the bank just to get something that fits and doesn't give me a baggy crotch/camel hoof.

Thanks user will add Marks to the list. I don't know why I didn't think of them today, I was in such a panic to get something I wasn't thinking straight. I hate shopping!!

Reiss have lovely trousers - £££! Good luck

Freetogo · 21/06/2018 07:35

God yes M&S, Next and as its a one off, and you dont want to spend loads, I would go to Matalan (usually quite good) and New Look.

MaudesMum · 21/06/2018 07:51

Remember with M&S that if they don't have the right size in store but you can tell that going up (or down) one size would work, their online ordering is really quick - especially if you've got a small M&S near you to have it delivered to. May also be worth having a go at Uniqlo as they do nice slim slightly cropped trousers - I'm a 14/16 and can get into their L, so XL would probably fit you.

QueenCyan · 21/06/2018 07:51

Not sure whether they go up to your size but I’d look at gap, whistles and warehouse. Coast may have the sort of thing you’re after too.

If you’re central London you could try other stories, arket, cos or massimo dutti but maybe check online beforehand as I have no idea whether they do black trousers.

I think the reason you’re struggling is the time of year. You’d probably find them easily in winter. Good luck

Have a look at the Boden paper bag trousers, they come in black and navy. They have a decent and flattering cut. Get your normal size and one size up.

If £££ become less of a concern, consider Jaegar; they do have brick & mortar stores still in
London as well as dept store concessions

youmeandconchitawurst · 21/06/2018 08:56

Phone ahead to John Lewis and get personal shopper. They don't charge but will sort you out. Only ever done it once for a "I have two hours and want something for a job interview that won't crush after I've spent five hours on a train". Was ace.

Also, try Hobbs if you've got a bit of cash. Their sizing is generous, def to 16, poss 18, lots of natural fibre.

Tuxedo trousers with the satin stripe down the side?

lhastingsmua · 21/06/2018 11:25

& other stories

COS?

Topshop oxford street (they have a whole floor of concessional brands, some are £££ so you might find something posh, they also stock Topshop Boutique which is a premium range)

You could also try ASOS, I’m sure they do same day delivery in certain areas of London. If not you could potentially receive it tomorrow and chose the exact hour for it to be delivered at eg 7am
