Evenings out, Italian Lakes

I will be going on a work trip to the Italian Lakes in July. We are visiting some very smart bars and restaurants and I wondered what the acceptable dress code would be? Could anyone offer advice please. Obviously I'm not going to morph from a size 14 tall lumpy blonde to a chic Italian Dolce and Gabbana type but I'd like to look reasonably acceptable.

I think you can't go wrong with a simple dress and expensive leather accessories - sandals and bag. Simple jewellery etc.

You say you're a tall size 14 blonde so you'd look wonderful with tan accessories (shoes and bag) plus a white dress (do you tan?)

Something like this would work well for smart bars/restaurants. The Italians love to dress up so you wont look out of place.

Thank you so much for this. I probably couldn’t manage white as I’m quite pale and don’t tan too well. But I like the idea of this type of dress. I have a similar one in Navy and I’ll take a look in Reiss at the weekend.

If you are dining right on the edge of a lake then don’t forget your perfume - eau de insect repellent. I was eaten alive.

Marylou2 · 20/06/2018 20:23

MrsMariaPolouvicka I wouldn't have thought of that. Thank you!

I’m cool toned tall and blonde. I took grey, navy, white and blue denim to the Lakes and found that having everything matching helped me to look more put together.

Keep handbag in your lap or use a crossbody bag if you can find a smart one (e.g. leather messenger style?) as unfortunately pickpockets are rather commonplace there.

Wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in as you are likely to have a walk from the taxi to the restaurant and if you're down on the lake shores you may well be taken for a walk to appreciate the lake views, or even walk from a bar to the restaurant then onto another bar.
