Dress Code for Tennis Match

Hi, I hope this is the right forum to put this in.

I have won VIP hospitality tickets for a tennis final - all very exciting, I'm planning to take my 10 year old nephew who plays tennis, I'm sure it will be a lovely day etc.

However, I am incredibly socially anxious for a start (plus I have Aspergers), and I have no idea what to wear for this occasion. I don't wear dresses and skirts (I don't wear high heels) and will need to wear something comfortable in order to not have a meltdown at the situation. I'm also plus sized, which kind of limits certain wardrobe choices.

I wasn't too worried about it at first, but I've now seen a photo of the hospitality suite and it resembles a wedding reception to me! I'm worried about being underdressed to be honest. We will probably sit on the terrace for the most part, where the tennis can be watched and we won't have to sit in such close quarters.

I live in shorts from April to October, so was planning to wear a collar-less shirt, shorts and white converse, but now I'm panicking it won't be 'dressy' enough.

Am I overthinking this? Should I just wear what is comfortable and not worry about it so much?? I have form for overthinking and I'm not sure if this is just more of that or not!!

You don't mention which tennis final. However as a guide I'd say a smart shirt and tailored shorts are fine but I would wear smart flat sandals (or possibly slip ons) rather than converse. If it's cool I'd wear a blazer. Generally I wear a jacket and tea dress type thing but that's not helpful advice if you don't wear skirts! It's not as smart as a wedding, don't worry.

Ps I would always wear flats to tennis anyway as there is generally a bit of walking around the grounds.

Where is it? That will make a difference.

It’s the Nature Valley Classic at Edgbaston Priory in Birmingham. So nothing Wimbledon-esque! But it’s this ‘VIP hospitality’ thing that gets me.

My nephew will most likely wear chino-type shorts, a short-sleeved shirt and pumps.

Footwear is a major issue for me - I have sensory issues, particularly around shoes - so don’t wear shoes without socks. Hence I don’t own sandals! I know, I know, I’m a major pain in the backside. That’s why I was thinking low top white Cons - it was the least conspicuous footwear I could think of that I could wear no-show socks with.
