How do I go about finding a good fake of a bag?

This Mulberry is the current bag of my dreams but I cannot justify the £££ - and I'd be quite happy with a passable imitation. Are there decent websites which do copies of bags?

OK so embarrassingly, Google lead me to a Mumsnet thread from 2009 and guess who started that thread? I did. I'm a muppet. Maybe in 2027 I'll post again asking about semi-decent Mulberry fakes and still not have bought one.

A good fake will probably still look like a fake. What about something with a similar style? uk.coach.com/coach-bowery-crossbody/57714.html?dwvar_color=LIBLK&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6J_iwf_a2wIVR5nVCh2wqwnDEAQYAiABEgLyifD_BwE

tenbob · 17/06/2018 16:22

Fake as in a knock off with Mulberry tags etc, or a legit looky-likey?

ShesABelter · 17/06/2018 16:24

Fakes can fund terrorism and cime, I wouldnt buy one if I were you.

Invisimamma · 17/06/2018 16:25

Buying fake stuff funds crime networks involved in human trafficking, drugs etc, it’s not a victimless purchase! Please don’t.

QOD · 17/06/2018 16:28

Pop over to Cyprus. Or Turkey. Or Tenerife.

Hassled · 17/06/2018 16:28

I meant a legit looky-likey - and I had no idea whatsoever about dodgy use of handbag money. I don't want something saying Mulberry when it isn't IYSWIM - I just want something that looks as nice.

MulberryPeony - that bag is lovely and thank you but I'm fighting against black bags.

Fakes bite, if they haven't been raised properly, and can pee in your other bags when you aren't looking.

Try getting one from a reputable shop, not a backstreet breeder dirty-mac wearer.

I think all fakes look fake and are made by poor underpaid buggers in a shithole. And the funding goes somewhere dodgy.

Are you in any of the mulberry buy and sell Facebook groups op? They are v good, although Lily’s are still a decent price. I wouldn’t bother with a fake, too obvious especially on mulberry.

Your second post did make me laugh though Smile

Hassled · 17/06/2018 16:41

Given that I've been pining after a Mulberry for a full 9 years, apparently, and seeing as how you've all put me straight on fakes, some small mad part of my brain is seriously thinking of just buying the real thing. It would pay for itself after another 9 years, right?

OP posts:
Madbengalmum · 17/06/2018 16:48

Buy once, buy right. A good quality designer bag should last for years and if well kept be worth something when you have ultimately finshed with it.

BusterTheBulldog · 17/06/2018 16:52

Honestly, it’s worth it! I’ve got a Gucci cross body bag that gets wheeled out for none stop use every summer and it’s still going strong after 13years! Also have a mulberry Bayswater and Tessie that I use to death to.

If you’ve got the money I would go do it, especially as it’s in the sale!

RoadToRivendell · 17/06/2018 16:58

LOL. I'm terribly amused that your google search returned you back to MN.

I think darling that you should buy yourself this bag, having pined for it for 9 years. There's quite a lot of them on Ebay. My top tip is to search on 'used' and check out the seller thoroughly to root out fakes.

Here's also a verified second-hand one:

Fakes are illegal. Any websites selling fakes are therefore by definition, dodgy. I come across a lot of fake bags when I'm volunteering in a charity shop and they vary hugely in quality. Often they are very shoddily made and it's very clear that it's not Gucci or whatever it says on the label. Others it can be much harder to tell - we spent ages looking at a "mulberry" the other day which was a good quality leather bag but definitely not a Mulberry.

Rather than a fake I'd be looking for a good quality, well made bag which you like and is in your budget. Brand doesn't matter.

Fabellini · 17/06/2018 17:10

I second what BusterTheBulldog said - there are several very good Mulberry groups on Facebook where you can buy and sell second-hand Mulberry bags, purses, scarves etc.
Most of the members are pretty knowledgeable, and quite helpful too.

Haint · 17/06/2018 17:13

Join mulberry selling Facebook pages

Go to an outlet (Cheshire oaks / Shepton mallet / bicester) you can even phone them to see if they have them in stock. They were doing a buy one get one half price offer a few weeks ago on the lily. I reckon there’ll be an influx on selling pages soon. Just make sure it’s vern authenticated —because no one in their right mind would want a fake—

If you’re determined to go the fake route google AAA REPLICA. And on your head be it 🤓

flutteryleaves · 17/06/2018 17:26

i would not even bother with a fake, they just look fake.

higher end high street stores often do their own versions of luxury handbag, like Whistles did a really nice st laurent blogger camera style handbag recently. have you thought about reiss, all saints etc?

the high street must have loads of chain strap bags in real leather which look like chanel, mulberry, gucci and st laurent

SilverHairedCat · 17/06/2018 17:26

I saw Mulberry bags in TK Maxx near Covent Garden last week. Obviously still expensive but hugely discounted. Worth a look? None on their website at the moment.

WindyWednesday · 17/06/2018 17:28

There is a mulberry outlet factory shop. Why not try there. I think it’s in Somerset.

WindyWednesday · 17/06/2018 17:29

Shepton Mallet. Somerset. Seconds, but still mulberry.

StylishMummy · 17/06/2018 17:31

If you're on Facebook I'd strongly recommend joining mulberry Swap & Sell, it's a group where the admin verify the bags but you can pick up second hand Mulberry bags for far less than RRP, the Lily is one of the icons so totally worth the statement!

MrsMaryMooFace · 17/06/2018 17:37

I have several real Mulberry's and they will last years if looked after. However I also stupidly bought a fake Lily from a friend who got it in Dubai, I hate it, never use it and can't sell it because it's fake! Waste of £100 Confused grrrr

Hassled · 17/06/2018 18:05

Thank you all so much - I really think I might do this. The outlet shops sound good - a hell of way away from us though. And I dream of stumbling across one in TX Maxx.

OP posts:
ShadowKitty · 17/06/2018 18:06

There's a couple of outlets in York too.

nooddsocksforme · 17/06/2018 18:10

Mulberry have a sale on at the moment so it’s a good time to buy . I didn’t buy one till I was well over 50 thinking it was too extravagant but I love the bags I have now , and I always feel good when I carry them.
