Late 40’s - horrendous spots!

Anyone else? I’m 47 and I’ve never suffered with anything other than the odd blemish, until a year or so ago. Now I get big, sore lumps on my skin, which take ages to come to a head, if at all. They leave horrible red marks as well. I’m putting sudocrem on them, any other suggestions? Fed up of it!

Could it be rosacea? I went to GP and was put on antibiotics.

I don’t think so, isn’t that usually round your nose and cheeks, mines just on my chin?

Chin spots are often hormonal I think.

I cut out dairy and it made a big difference.

Also those hydrocolloid spot patches helped. And holding an ice cube wrapped in a plastic bag over them til the ice cube melts takes the soreness out and reduces the redness/inflammation.

I got hrt and the hideous hormonal carbuncles cleared almost overnight. I use a bio identical (from the yam) oestrogen gel called sandrena and have the Mirena progesterone coil to support it. I'm 45, I had various perimenopausal symptoms but really had to fight to have them recognised as was deemed 'too Young'. I regularly saw a specialist who did the prescribing then when it worked he wrote to my GP and recommended it.

Hormonal
Lower sugar intake.

If I eat too much sugary stuff, I get awful chin, jaw and neck spots.

I got this too in my 40s - cystic acne I think it was called. Horrendous lumps which took months to disappear. GP prescribed a low dose of tetracycline which worked a treat but did stain my teeth black so had to have 3 monthly scale and polish. Can't win Angry

Noted. Thanks all.

Our oestrogen declines with age, I’ve read as testosterone increases it sparks acne. Chin hairs too.

I’d see the dr, and I’d look at Caroline hirons acne and cleansing cheat sheets. The ordinary does salicylic acid for spots that works really well and is cheap.

I started using Paula's Choice and it has really helped. As did drastically cutting down on sugar, alcohol and caffeine.

I had folliculitis around my jaw sounds just like this , I had topical antibiotics which cleared it up nicely

The Ordinary Niacinamide and Zinc clears mine

I’m 37 and went through 12 months of this.

The neutrogena range for acne has cleared it up a treat.
