How do you get super shiny hair like this?

SJP with shiny hair - sort of amazing because I have a friend who lives near her and said her hair was always dry and ruined-looking

And is it possible with greying dark brown hair?! I think my grey hair would look so much nicer if it was SHINY.

I don't know! I wish I did. Her hair is super shiny in that pic

newdocket · 15/06/2018 15:22

some kind of very silicone-laden product?!

rollingonariver · 15/06/2018 15:26

I used to use a 'shine spray' and people used to compliment my hair all the time!

rhubarbfool · 15/06/2018 15:27

Really, rolling? Did it make your hair go greasy? Which one did you use?

no heat treatment, well conditioned hair, although it is probably product

Frequency · 15/06/2018 15:32

It's product coupled with a good blow dry. If you look at the ends of her hair they look thin and frazzled. Any decent stylist can take a fizzy mop and turn it into a shining crown of glory.

Wella do a good shine mist.

rollingonariver · 15/06/2018 15:47

It was one you put on wet hair, quite cheap! It didn't make my hair greasy no, just very very shiny!

halfwitpicker · 15/06/2018 15:49

I reckon putting on loads of conditioner, plastic shower cap, sleep in
it then wash out in the morning would give your hair a lovely shine.

mmmccccccxxx · 15/06/2018 16:00

Lets be honest it's
Probably a filter !!!

Paintbox · 15/06/2018 16:10

It is unusual to see light coloured hair that shiny. I’m guessing it’s a shine spray product

DriftwoodFascinator · 15/06/2018 16:16

I dye my hair a very bright red. Permanent dye fades fast, so I top it up every few days with a semi-permanent, and I'm ALWAYS getting comments about how shiny my hair is. The semi-permanent dye is what does it!

shutthedoorbob · 15/06/2018 16:25

I can't remember exact details but I remember my hairdresser years ago who had blonde hair saying she had some sort of thing done to her hair which was like dying it but it was just a gloss sort of thing...sorry can't remember what it was or anything 🤔

oohyoudevilyou · 15/06/2018 17:16

I wish I knew - I have highlights to blend in my greys, and my hair barely reflects any light at all Sad

Roomba · 15/06/2018 17:22

I use semi permanent dye and get loads of people saying how shiny my hair is. Just a shame it's so damn fine and so much fell out when I was anaemic Sad

I have long hair that is fine, tangles very easily and splits easily if I use a hairdryer at all. I use Castings semi permanent dye every few weeks, slather loads of Pantene conditioner on (use any old cheap shampoo and rotate then regularly) and let my hair air dry. Never use straighteners, I don't need them. That's all.

Now of anyone can tell me magic way to grow about twice as many hairs on my head, I'm all ears!

TheBrilloPad · 15/06/2018 18:34

It's obvs not how SJP does it, but my hair is always so so soft and shiny for a good few weeks after I use LUSH Henna on it (pic attached) - I got it from a tip here on MN and now Henna my hair every few months and am hooked!

Some hairdressers do a semi-permanent glossing. It's like a toner but adds shine not colour, from what I could understand when I asked my hairdresser! TONI & Guy do it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/06/2018 07:58

I used Lush henna and though I loved the colour and it made my hair thicker, I never got the mirror shine Sad

My hair is wavy and I'm trying to grow it ( I will be literally tearing my hair out as it goes through the growing stages)
I'd never used any heat but it does make it shinier if I use the Babylis brush ( the ones that rotates as it dries) just a quick style when its nearly dry.

Colour Wow Supernatural spry - it needs to be used with heat to activate it.
And a cheap-as-chips Inecto coconut serum if I'm just in a wash&go mood .

murphys · 16/06/2018 08:23

When I go for colour my hairdresser adds in clear to the dye mix. It really makes hair look shiny and glossy.

B00dyM4ry · 16/06/2018 08:29

I'm getting great results with Loreal Smartbond step 3. My hairdresser uses step 1&2 when she highlights my hair. Step 3 is the at home conditioner.
My blond hair which always looked a bit dry and scraggly is pretty sleek.
