I challenge anyone to find me some sandals

... that look fashionable and don't hurt.

I spend most of my life in flip flops or trainers so my feet are 'soft'. I also think they've spread as I've got older (in my 50s).

Even if I do manage to find something smart for work that fits, I invariably get blisters.

I bought some Birkenstocks last week which have given me a nasty blister above my big toe so now can't wear them until it's healed.

Constraints are:

I'm a size 8
Have high insteps, which means anything that goes over the top of my foot at the highest point tends to rub
Have suffered from plantar fasciitis so don't want to trigger it again by wearing anything with too hard a sole
Have an unsightly lumpy little toe on my right foot from a badly healed break so any straps have to cover it.
Can't manage anything higher than a low heel

I want something I can wear with summer dresses/skirts (I wear a lot of navy, grey, white, beige). Have spent all afternoon in various shops but so many shoes are made of stiff hard leather. I know it will soften up with wear, but that involves pain!

Please, somebody find me something I can wear before it's time to dig out my boots again!!!

I just bought these Dune sandals from John Lewis, might they fit the bill?

I have quite a high instep but the straps fit round them fine. They also cover my little toe and the leather is really soft!

Fitflop are worth a look. Something like this? www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/sale-all-uk/lumy-leather-gladiator-sandals-p-E43-012

Ah sorry, just seen they don't have them left in an 8, but there are others that might work - check the outlet section too.

I've just paid £20 for these in TK Maxx: www.shuperb.co.uk/hush-puppies-tease-soothe-ladies-flat-sandals-black-silver-p11299

Salt-water sandals? They do not rub and are quite wide. Might be a bit flat for you though.

They look nice Spirit. I had a frustrating time in JL today though as they didn't have anything in my size.

Rose gold seems very popular at the moment, but my summer work clothes are mainly white/navy/grey. I'm particularly keen to find something to wear with this -

Try Gabor or Fitflop

blueskypink · 10/06/2018 23:14

Have tried fitflops on, but my high instep means I can't get my foot into them properly. But I do like the look of those sandals from TK Max Silver.

Try Tesco sensitive sole range, I usually live in flip flops or dolly shoes at work but I can survive a day in the Tesco wedges with no pain at all they are super comfy -and a total bargain-

MarklahMarklah · 10/06/2018 23:34

You'd have to try these on but I got a pair the other day and found them really comfortable. I have plantar fasciitis and they are very supportive in the arch. However, you might find them too tight if you've a high instep.
They do seem to do some similar styles in a wide fit, which might give you enough 'give'.

madcatladyforever · 10/06/2018 23:34

have a look at JD Williams size 7+ range, they have a lot of thick soles shoes in larger sizes that miss out the lump on top of the instep. High arched feet are the most difficult to find shoes for due to the lump on top and tendency for the toes to claw eventually.
You should be able to get away with a small wide heel as people with this foot type usually have a short achilles tendon hence the plantar fasciitis. If you fancy weariong flip flops go for orthopaedic flip flops. I get mine off amazon.

I have high arches and these have been great - they've soft but also the slight heel has helped my arches not be overly-stretched.
