Silicone-based serum and Curly Girl method

I've been doing CG for about a month now. My hair hasn't never looked better. HOWEVER, the frizz was still quite prevalent so I bought Twisted Sista curl activator cream and applied the size of a Skittle whilst my hair is still wet and oh.my.goodness, the curls turned out perfectly and the frizz is completely gone. I wasn't going to use it as I noticed that it included dimethicone only after I bought it, but since I'm not going to be able to return it, it might why not, let's give it a try and see.

Now, my question is...is it so bad to use a teeny bit of this cream (it has dimethicone so not silicone free)? I do a cowash every other day and haven't noticed any buildup yet. My hair is usually rather dry and rarely feels greasy.

What are the drawbacks of using very little silicone-inclusive production your hair if it makes it look really good?

Sorry for the ramble...

I think that the silicon coating prevents your hair absorbing anything so it can get a bit dry. If it were me, I'd try it for a while and see how my hair responded.

"If you want the benefits of silicone without the weight, look for lightweight silicones, as mentioned above, like cyclomethicone and dimethicone copolyol. These ingredients won't build up but still give you some conditioning and shine benefits."

@picklemepopcorn thank you, that article is very helpful.

It’s just that, frizz is my biggest enemy at the moment so whatever helps to keep that at bay plus enhances my curls is a sure winner in my books. Well, I guess I’m going to have to see whether there’ll be any buildup from Twisted Sista and if so, discontinue.
