Sleeve length for working in Oman

Very fortunate to be going to work in Oman for a month at the end of the year - no problem generally with understanding the dress code, but struggling to find out whether a ‘normal’ short sleeved blouse (i.e. covers the shoulders but ends a good way above the elbow) would be acceptable in an office environment.

Could anyone advise please? Thanks

I used to work in Brunei which is one of the more conservative countries in the region so I wore 3/4 length sleeves and skirts or trousers well below the knee eg. Capri pants. As a general rule, as long as shoulders, cleavage and knees are covered, you should be ok. I always had a pashmina handy just in case.

I've worked in the Gulf and have visited Oman on holiday. I would go with 3/4 length sleeves. It won't be that warm in December.

Average temp in Muscat will be around 23-24C in December it's a nice time to be there. Omanis are so friendly you'll love it.

That’s great advice, thank you all! I’m really looking forward to the trip and already know that the people I’m going to be working with are lovely, so really keen to be respectful of culture etc.

People are so polite they wouldn't say anything if you wore shorter sleeves. I always go more conservative in work situations. Enjoy!

I would probably err on the side of caution and go for elbow-length and a little more. If it's an office job it will be air-conditioned anyway so you won't be too uncomfortable or hot.

Enjoy, Oman looks beautiful Grin

Mercurial and Lifebeginner my thoughts exactly, and it’s no hardship to cover a little more!

It does look beautiful, I’m really forward to exploring Smile

Make sure you always have a wrap or shawl so if you do need to cove yup you have something handy.

Yep, got that covered - thanks!
