Does this wig work?

Congrats OP on your upcoming wedding. The wig is lovely. You can go to salons etc and have practise runs and they will help give advice on what will suit for your wedding day and what you are comfortable with - although I agree with PPs that it looks very nice just as it is in that pic! But if you wanted to do a little something with it then go for it ☺️❤️

Paintbox · 09/06/2018 15:23

ANyfucker, I don’t think I’m remembering the old thread wrongly, but the op was originally asking about the dress and people piled in saying the hairpiece was aging. Apologies if I’ve got it wrong but that was the upsetting thing iirc, op didn’t ask about the hair!

Claystone · 09/06/2018 15:33

It's a great wig OP. You're goIng to look fantastic. Get a hairdresser to style it for you.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/06/2018 15:33

You look lovely, wearing your bloke's dressing gown.
You'll look fabulous wearing a wedding dress.

AnyFucker · 09/06/2018 15:37

Actually paint you are right. I remembered the original question wrongly. My apologies. My comments above still stand though Smile

TSSDNCOP · 09/06/2018 15:41

OP I noticed you’re in Kent. My Dsis had breast cancer and was chemo-treated. She had her wig styled at Tony and Guy in Bluewater and it looked amazing. There are a couple big stylists in there that are properly wig trained. I’d really recommend an appointment.

Ps: you look great and I hope your wedding is a fantastic success.

Sidge · 09/06/2018 15:43

You are gorgeous. And definitely don’t look your age in the first picture. However the hairpiece really aged you and looked a bit “bottle blonde barmaid” if I’m honest and I’m glad to hear it’s off the menu!

What’s your natural colouring? If the wig is uncomfortable would you rather go bare headed for your wedding or is that a step too far?

It could be worth asking the oncology nurses, or Macmillan if they know any hairdressers or beauty therapists that specialise in wig styling? It’s quite a niche area but some are really experienced in working with wigs and often offer their services via hospices, oncology etc.

Enjoy your wedding day - you are going to be a beautiful bride!

Constance88 · 09/06/2018 15:43

48?! Oh my god you look amazing!! I would have said 32!! And I think that wig looks lovely

WilburIsSomePig · 09/06/2018 15:46

I think you look so lovely. And I'm actually really pissed off on your behalf that someone said you look much older than 48. You really don't!

PinguPaws · 09/06/2018 15:53

The colour looks really nice, a lovely soft subtle shade... Also joining in the chorus of how fantastically young you look, NO WAY would I've put you at 48. Hope you have a brilliant day.SmileFlowers

I remember your last thread OP, you were very pleasant and gracious despite some severe provocation. You look lovely. As a full time wig wearer, I have never had much success in a full updo - it’s the back hairline that’s difficult to get right, and it ended up stressing me so much about what might be on show that I abandoned it. I’d go for a half-up. I also would disregard a piece. I’m totally bald so not an option for me, but if your hair just needs a bit of help I would go for a topper. That means your own hair will provide a good hairline all the way round. You will struggle to get good human hair in that colour, but I never use HH and synthetic can be amazingly good nowadays.

ilovecherries · 09/06/2018 16:13

Wouldn’t give up on NOTwould disregard.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 09/06/2018 16:44

@ilovecherries that's really made me cry! Not your fault. I've been trying today to get it half up. It falls off!!!!

My father died a few weeks ago and I'm getting married on my parents' 66th anniversary. Very outing, but makes it so important.

Is it human or synthetic? There are several solutions to make a wig feel more secure, depending on the amount of hair you have underneath. Eg

You can get clip combs from amazon that you sew around the wig edges
You can put your bio hair in a low pony and pin it up flat - the ‘knob’ of the pony creates a bump that stop any riding upwards.
You can wear a wig cap, either net or nylon (not a normal hairnet). I find this my least preferred solution.
You can use a product called ItStays from ebay or Got2BGlued from boots as adhesive if you don’t have much hair
My preferred solution and I have never lost a wig is a simple velvet wig band. (Amazon). It sort of Velcros the wig into position. It’s super comfy and that wig goes nowhere.
Finally, use the adjusters inside to get a good fit.

Choosing the right colour, especially a highlighted or rooted one can also help with it looking natural, as can a mono top, which gives you a natural part. Lace fronts will give you a natural line at the front, but you don’t need one with a fringed wig, and some people find them itchy.

However, having said all that, if you have hair, I’d seriously reconsider a topper. Loads of brides wear them, anyone who does bridal hair will be able to do you a decent updo, and it might feel more ‘normal’ for you. I love a good wig, but they do take time to get used to. Hugging etc doesn’t shift your wig, but if you feel nervous about people bumping too close to your head, it will spoil your day. A topper may well work best.

Whatever you decide, have a lovely day :)

GinandGingerBeer · 09/06/2018 17:12

Ahh, I was going to pm you iLovecherries to ask if you could pop on and give some advice (I'm on the hush threads)
And here you are Smile
OP you look gorgeous. Have a lovely wedding day WineThanks

GinandGingerBeer · 09/06/2018 17:14

And do post a picture on the thread on your wedding day, in your dress, looking stunning lobster Smile

Fflamingo · 09/06/2018 17:23

Just to put a small spanner in the works -can you get lighter spec frames - they are a bit dark. You look fab though.

ilovecherries · 09/06/2018 17:25

I pop up everywhere, gin Grin

ilovecherries · 09/06/2018 17:53

The other thing to remember with a topper (rather than a prestyled hairpiece), is that they come with different sized tops, so you can really get away with not-very-much bio hair underneather. While I promise you that a properly fitting wig is extremely secure and can be made more so with the things I’ve listed above, you may feel more at ease in a topper, styled on your head by a bridal hair person. I feel very sorry that you haven’t been well supported and advised about dealing with your hair loss, it’s much more common than you would ever imagine (I lost all my hair at 19), and I wouldn’t underestimate the psychological impact. But the solutions nowadays are pretty amazing, and I never have to have a bad hair day :)

ilovecherries · 09/06/2018 18:01

This might give you some ideas about what’s possible. Remember also if you have chemo related hair loss or alopecia then you qualify as a necessity user and you don’t have to pay VAT which takes a chunk off the price. Sorry if you know all this already.

@ilovecherries you are amazing! Taking this all on board. Thank you so much xx

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/06/2018 18:41

That's a wig? I might have thought extensions at a push...

It's very pretty and the colour is nice.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 09/06/2018 18:46

And thank you @Paintbox for your very good memory!

OP posts:
ChishandFips33 · 09/06/2018 20:19

No advice about securing a wig but I thought you were a late twenty-something in your first picture

You look amazing! Better hair colour and style and your smile lights up your face

Hope your wedding day holds amazing memories for you both
