Sorry it's just an easy way of describing it, I need something comfortable for summer that's hardy and I can run round a playground etc in. Mostly to wear with jeans

Are trainers my only option?

I cannot claim to be stylist OP but I have flats from Deichman, they have velcro fastening and are really comfy. Ive actually had a bad foot dor months and these are most comfortable and have actually helped. I can also run around after a toddler in them

Sandals? Saltwaters, birkies, ancient greek as you prefer.

Espadrilles are a cheap and cheerful option. I have £6 sequinned ones from Primark that I live in.

Orherwise some kind of flat shoe, ballet pumps or mary janes or t-bars.

Pavers have lots of comfy shoes that don’t look Mumsie.

trainers are IT!

My kids are teens and I still mainly wear them Grin

Love the fashion trainers that are everywhere at the moment, even wear them with dresses/skirts

Thanks- are espadrilles comfy? I ran round in ballet flats yesterday and that was a mistake

I find them comfy, you're basically walking on straw so your foot is cushioned. The vamp is higher than on a ballet pump so they are less likely to slip off. But everyone's feet are different so you'd need to try them.

For context, I have fairly small (size 4/37) but reasonably wide feet. Can't wear heels (and by that I mean anything over about a centimetre), live in flats including some barefoot shoes. So, e.g. I think my saltwaters are some of the most comfortable shoes I own but many on here hate the completely flat sole. But espadrilles can be bought very cheaply so buy a pair, see what you think then you can upgrade to e.g. Toms if you like them.

I do a lot of running around with small DC and a dog. My superga, saltwaters, birkenstocks and a pair of Nike Pegasus are the shoes I've been wearing most so far this summer. And my trusty old Haviana flip flops for the beach (I live at the coast so there everyday with the dog).

Trainers for me all the way

There are so many cool and bright ones
And they protect your back

I also love the rubber birkies

I second pavers. I have a pair of tan wedge sandals that are comfy as anything, the leather is really soft. My daughter commented that they were nice, so can’t be frumpy!
