If you are very large busted...

What dress styles do you gravitate toward?

Thinking about my bridesmaids dresses and two of my bridesmaids are large of boob (38GG and 36K) and want them to be comfortable. I will of course ask them but just as a guide as I’m doing my first looking. I will probably buy bigger and get them fitted properly by a tailor.

I’m envisaging four bridesmaids in the same colour/fabric but different cut dresses.

Nothing with a high neck. Makes your boobs look like your waist. V neck, with straps bing enough for a bra is best. My brother put me in a strapless dress. Was a nightmare.

KirstenRaymonde · 08/06/2018 13:03

Ah no I don’t like that. They might as well just be guests, different styles yes but I do want them to look like they go together.

32JJ/K here. Prefer sweetheart necklines or v neck, not slash necks. As long as I could get a full bra under I would be happy!

Maidupmum · 08/06/2018 14:05

Bravissimo have got a range of bridesmaid style dresses out

ineedwine99 · 08/06/2018 14:09

V neck or cowl neck

ineedwine99 · 08/06/2018 14:11

I found Queenie good: www.queeniebridesmaid.co.uk/long-bridesmaid-dresses-uk

They are nice but don’t do the mustard yellow unfortunately. I think Mix Bridal is my best bet, lots of different choices.

Make sure that you see your bridesmaids in mustard yellow before spending a lot on the dresses. I don’t know what colouring or ethnicity they are but it’s a colour which looks really fabulous on darker skin tones and absolutely dreadful on anyone fair.

whatithink · 08/06/2018 15:04

Something that they can wear a normal bra with. Not strapless or spaghetti straps. Not high neck and no ruffles.

KirstenRaymonde · 08/06/2018 16:28

PlumsInTheIcebox I’m fair and wear lots of mustard yellow and it looks great on me. I get compliments whenever I wear it. The key is finding the right shade.

Just get a swatch to check IRL before you spend a lot on made-to-measure, non-returnable dresses!

Incidentally, if you were to go for that particular Mix Bridal style that you linked upthread do be aware that the complex ruching on the bodice will make it very difficult to alter once it’s made.

Curlywurlywurly · 08/06/2018 16:54

Second the swatch idea.

I'm very pale and just look sallow and jaundiced if I wear yellow.

KirstenRaymonde · 08/06/2018 16:57

They’re all happy with the colour.

My dd had her bridesmaids dresses in the same colour, but different styles as they had completely different body shapes, looked lovely.
Yy the swatch idea, mustard comes in such a variety of shades.

Schmoochypoos · 08/06/2018 21:12

OP nice of you to think of your bridesmaids- I was a bridesmaid and I’m a 34FF and the bride chose a strapless empire peach number, I looked pregnant Blush

UnaOfStormhold · 08/06/2018 21:18

Saintbustier specialises in clothes that flatter larger busts - they may be worth a browse for shapes that might work. They also do some evening dresses that might work: www.saintbustier.com/oscar-navy-blue-maxi-evening-dress.html

Pictureiswonky · 10/06/2018 06:50

This shop in London is brilliant. I'm a bridesmaid soon and I have a very different body to the other bridesmaids. They measured us and found everyone just the perfect dress. They do every shape in every colour

Something like the Monsoon Orianne dress.

A structured dress definitely not floaty or Grecian. Avoid high waists

BlueKittens · 10/06/2018 07:09

By high waist I mean empire line. Can make big busted ladies look pregnant

BlueKittens · 10/06/2018 07:14

Kirsten - mustard yellow was my wedding colour. I had the bridesmaids accessorise with mustard (shoes, handbag, sash) and they wore a structured navy dress. V neck, 50 styles lace. ‘‘Twas gorgeous. Easier to find a navy dress than mustard

MyOtherHusbandIsTomHardy · 10/06/2018 07:15

Nothing high neck

BlueKittens · 10/06/2018 07:21

^ the dresses were also capped sleeves which is balancing for larger bust. This was the dress but in navy. Just replaced the silk sash.
