Anyone own any Alex Monroe jewellery?

I've wanted to buy an Alex Monroe necklace for years, whether that be their classic bumblebee design or a different design (they're all so gorgeous. I love them all!) I'm finally leaning towards the idea of getting one as an everyday necklace. In your experience, are they worth it? I don't want to spend lots of money on one, and then be disappointed? Any designs I should avoid/any particular favourite you have?
Just for backgrounds, I was looking to buy one in silver !

I have a lovely necklace and earrings set (small birds), not strong enough for everyday wear though as the chain is very fine.

The actual modelling/casting of the little pendants is great quality and I think that is the biggest selling point. I haven't seen any of such good quality elsewhere, they must be cast from an original that is hand-carved. It's a lot of money for silver/gold plated, that's the downside.

Oh, I have a hummingbird, it's gorgeous but it's very sharp and suitable if you have small dc who are going to grab you. I've had loads of everyday wear of mine.

www.alexmonroe.com/little-warbler-necklace.html?___SID=U?material=254#.WxbQidHTWf0 I was looking at this one and another necklace which was an apple pendant with a beautiful peridot bead next to it, both in silver.

That's a shame that the chains are too fine for everyday wear...if I get one I want to wear it everyday as I know I'll love it!

I have the larger bee necklace in silver and love it, I wear it all the time. It’s my second one - the clasp must have failed on the first or the chain broke because it fell off never to be seen again Sad I get lots of compliments on it, I don’t think they’re quite as ubiquitous as they were a few years ago.

camelfinger · 05/06/2018 20:01

I wear my bee most days, including to sleep in and in the shower! Still as good as new. Love it.

zgaze · 05/06/2018 20:02

When I say I wear it all the time - I mean I really do, I sleep / swim / shower in it, I’ve had this one for two years now and it’s fine.

PickleSarnie · 05/06/2018 20:02

I've got the bumble bee and the horseshoe and a fox in gold. And a silver long round ball globe made of flowers and when you open it, there's a tiny gold bird inside.

One thing to look out for it the sizing. My horseshoe is small size and it's tiny but small bee is a decent size so the big one must be massive.

PatienceIsAVirtue1 · 05/06/2018 20:06

That makes me feel better about it being an everyday sort of necklace,e I'm glad I can wear it all the time. I think his designs are more popular in gold tbh. Did anyone watch the Split on BBC1, I couldn't help noticing Nicola walker's beautiful collection of Alex monroe necklaces 😍 I was very jealous!

I have the apple necklace, but in the gold vermeil. It is beautiful, very small but heavy. The peridot bead is tiny. I do love it, I don’t wear it every day.

GinIsIn · 05/06/2018 20:12

I have the bee, it’s about a decade old now and I still love it!

Judydreamsofhorses · 05/06/2018 20:13

I have the hummingbird, the fox, and the sailing boat, plus the daisy ring and earrings. I broke the chain on the hummingbird - I caught it when we were moving house - and they replaced the chain and polished it up, free of charge.

GreenthoughtInAGreenShade · 05/06/2018 20:14

I love them but agree with pp that the more intricate designs can be a bit spiky/catchy, so I avoid wearing them around small children.

FWIW, the first one I got (a loop with buttercups in silver) tarnished v.quickly when I wore it everyday, but the gold ones I got that I wear infrequently as they are more special still look as new. Don’t know if that’s because of the silver, or because the intricate shape made it hard to shine.

Top tip - people sell them on eBay ALL the time, and you can sometimes get real bargains.

PatienceIsAVirtue1 · 05/06/2018 20:16

Thank you for all your responses, you've all been v.helpful, and I feel even more tempted now!
Ooh good idea greenthought, although I'd be worried that I'd end up buying one that was fake or damaged or something, knowing my luck 😅

I have the small feather one and wear it pretty much all the time and don’t find the chain too fine. I’m hoping to get another one for my birthday. Possible the mini silver bee.

Blaziken · 05/06/2018 20:47

I have the baby bee in the rose gold plating. I love it, worth every penny.

rosettesforjill · 05/06/2018 20:54

I just chose the gold bee with the little pearl for my birthday! So pretty - I can't wait to wear it Smile

Delamereroad · 05/06/2018 20:57

Going to treat myself to the bee or dragonfly in gold plate soon.

Getting very popular

Agree a lot of copies around but the Alex Monroe originals have finer detailing.

yikesanotherbooboo · 05/06/2018 21:23

My DD has bee and wears it every day ( has had it for years)

AgentProvocateur · 05/06/2018 21:26

My small silver bee is about 10 years old and I wear it all the time, including to bed and in the shower.

LunaTheCat · 05/06/2018 22:41

I am on holiday in uk and have just bought small gold dipped bee - still looking lovely in it’s box !

newsfromnowhere · 05/06/2018 23:24

I have this one - about 5/6yrs old now, worn it loads and it’s still going strong: www.jewelleryby.co.uk/shop/bird-necklace-with-diamond-set-flower/
Sometimes scarves etc catch on it but it’s fairly sturdy despite fine chain.

ilovecherries · 05/06/2018 23:34

I’ve got the bumble bee, which I love, but my one gripe is that as a leftie I can’t do the clasp up myself. Every other pendant I have I just take the chain off and re-thread the other way, but the bale (bail??) is too small to get the clasp through to get it off. Because the bee itself has an obvious right and wrong side, I can’t just turn the whole thing around, it needs to be threaded the other way. But it is otherwise lovely - it just annoys me!

TheOnlyAletheia · 06/06/2018 06:22

I have 2 bees (I thought that I had lost the necklace, bought a replacement, but found it again), a dragonfly and a shrimp in gold and some bee studs. I wear them daily and the detailing is very good.

HuckfromScandal · 06/06/2018 09:51

I have a silver bee, wear it a lot! Got it from my children for my birthday two years ago. Love it.
