Frizzy hair - grrrrr!

Maybeicanhelp · 05/06/2018 14:15

I have shoulder length brown hair which is so prone to frizz. I can style and straighten it, then as soon as I go outside, it's wild and bushy Grin.

Does anyone have any recommendations for products I could use to get a sleek look?

I do not want to visit a salon. I do not want to try Olaplex, Brazilian Blow Dry or chemical straightening.

I just want your advice on wonder products that I can use every day / once a week.

Thanks in advance Smile.

Mine's exactly the same and leaving it curly is really hard work.

I'd like a simple, no faff anti frizz product that actually works. I've had limited success with frizz- ease and that oil from Aldi whose name escapes me.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 05/06/2018 14:37

Tresemme 7 day straight is quite good. Dd17 washes & straightens her hair on Sunday night and it looks good for several days (with a little Batiste at the roots). It won’t withstand getting rained on but otherwise it stays pretty frizz free. I initially bought her the shampoo, conditioner & treatment but these days we just use the treatment after any old shampoo/conditioner.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 05/06/2018 14:37

Watching with interest.

I have spent hundreds on hair products trying to combat frizz and nothing has given me the result I want.

I want something I can apply to towel dried hair that will enhance my slight wave and stop my hair turning into a haystack once I dry it.

Oils, serums, mousses, curl creams - have tried dozens of them and nothing fucking works Angry.

Maybeicanhelp · 05/06/2018 14:40

Yes, something to use at home, SluttyButty.

I've had chemical straightening several times in the past, on the last occasion some hair on my crown broke off at the roots.

Brazilian Blow Dry lasted a few days, despite the greedy and not having a clue hairdresser assuring me it was the best thing since sliced bread (it was equally effective) Grin.

Sea salt spray somewhat organises frizz into a more coherent beachy wavy style.

Lilymossflower · 05/06/2018 14:41

You could try henna. It coats the hair shaft and thus makes it thicker, andshinier with a richer colour.
The added weight on the hair shafts could smoothen and sleeker it out a bit along with overall improvement

Thanks for all your suggestions so far, and your quick responses.

It seems I'm not alone.

I'm going to make a list, keep 'em coming!

Have you tried the curly girl method?

SluttyButty · 05/06/2018 14:47

villain I've tried the salt spray and that looked fab when I was blonde but just makes me look like I've walked out of the 70's with my natural dark brown Confused

Maybeicanhelp · 05/06/2018 16:23

@sexnotgender, if I'm honest, straight hair suits me better than curly. I tried curly girl once and ended up looking like my DM circa 1970.

Henna looks a faff, I'm a lazy sod, sorry Lilymossflower.

Tresemme seems like a contender, I'll take a look Mabel.

villainous, I might try the salt spray on holiday, like I say, I'm a lazy mare, and it would save carrying half of Boots AND the straighteners with me Smile.

I use John Freida Frizz Ease serum. I have thick but fine hair that's prone to frizzing. I curl mine into waves and it looks good all day.

You should make sure your hair is properly nourished though. It will help to add a little argan oil through the lengths after washing - I use a Tresemme one, but pretty much any from Superdrug or Boots will do. I also let mine air-dry, since I damage it enough from heat styling.

MrBennOfFestiveRoad · 06/06/2018 20:45

This:

www.boots.com/beauty/hair/all-hair/loreal-elnett-heat-protect-spray-straight-hairspray-170ml-10147339

They have changed the spray bit at the top now, so it looks slightly different.

Temporaryanonymity · 06/06/2018 20:49

Even frizzease super strong serum won't work when it is humid or raining. Sometimes you just have to work with what you've got.

laramara · 06/06/2018 21:05

You could try Color Wow Dreamcoat supernatural sealant, from M&S beauty, has had some good reviews.

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2018 21:08

Get a really good cut that works with your hair not against it. It will change your life

TheCatsWhiskers · 06/06/2018 21:45

I have extremely frizzy hair, if left to itself, but no more!

My regime is:

Tigi S Factors shampoo & conditioner:

First condition, then rinse
Next, shampoo, comb through gently - don't scrub the hair, rinse well

Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask

Comb through, leave for 10 mins, rinse

Paul Mitchell super skinny relaxing balm
Give a good couple of squirts, run through hair & blow dry

Tigi catwalk blow out balm
Couple of pumps and smoooth over hair

This sounds like a lot, but the products last for ages and I now have smooth sleek hair. It has mad such a difference.

TheCatsWhiskers · 06/06/2018 21:46
  • made not mad!
Mammabear31 · 06/06/2018 21:52

Can I ask why you won't try Olaplex? I use it once a week (leave it on dirty wet hair for an hour or overnight if possible, rinse out and then s&c as normal) and it is the only product that helps tame the dreaded frizz.

TheCatsWhiskers · 06/06/2018 21:54

Forgot to say, blow dry until all dry (I have very thick hair) and then straighten.

Maybeicanhelp · 06/06/2018 22:03

Ooh, thanks for these suggestions, they are on the list. Will check out the reviews and let you know how I get on Smile.

Planning a trip to Boots or Superdrug next week as they are the nearest big stores, I'll report back.

Forgot to say, I have some argan oil, only used it a couple of times, ages ago. I put it on my hair after blow drying and it left it greasy. Will try on wet hair and see if that improves it.

Believe it or not, Johnson's baby shampoo works best for me. My hair is naturally curly and frizzy. I've tried what seems like everything there is to try, nothing worked (except permanently straightening that I had done years ago, and will do again when I can afford it).
Anyway a few weeks ago I ran out of shampoo so I used ds's baby shampoo. My hair is stronger, shinier, in better condition and not as dry. Fair enough I haven't had it trimmed since August 2012, so the ends are very bad. But I honestly can't believe the difference.
I use it all the time now, even though I'm a 25 year old married mum.

tracymars · 06/06/2018 22:12

I used to use an anti frizz shampoo called Twisted Sistah by Urban Therapy. It was really good I discovered it at the pound shop. Then when it disppeared from there I found it quite cheaply online. Now I can only find it quite expensive on Ebay. I comb my hair after washing otherwise it stays a tangled mess. I use a kids detangling spray when I comb it which makes it quite soft

Maybeicanhelp · 06/06/2018 22:18

I'm going to try the baby shampoo, that's a great suggestion happymummy. Ideally, I want something as fuss-free as possible.

Sosomego · 06/06/2018 22:37

Definitely try again with Argan Oil on wet hair. I've been using Moroccanoil for ages and love it (although it's best used sparingly) and I've recently started using their smoothing shampoo and conditioner. It's not cheap but it really works on my hair, the difference in frizz was noticeable from the first wash.
