Frizzy hair - grrrrr!

Maybeicanhelp · 05/06/2018 14:15

I have shoulder length brown hair which is so prone to frizz. I can style and straighten it, then as soon as I go outside, it's wild and bushy Grin.

Does anyone have any recommendations for products I could use to get a sleek look?

I do not want to visit a salon. I do not want to try Olaplex, Brazilian Blow Dry or chemical straightening.

I just want your advice on wonder products that I can use every day / once a week.

Thanks in advance Smile.

Thanks everyone.

Will try the baby shampoo and argan oil combo first and see how that goes.

Plan B is a trip to Superdrug or Boots. Watch this space Smile.

So, I washed my hair in the shower this morning; I used a small tube of gentle shampoo that I got from a hotel stay at some point. Then I used a few drops of argan oil after towel drying. I blow dried and used the straighteners. Looked fine.

I've just come back from my walk and it's not too bad. I got some baby shampoo whilst I was out, so will try that with the argan oil next. Thanks to happy and So-so for those suggestions.

I figure it's preferable to try the cheapest options first, just in case I get lucky Smile.

I have the same problem. My hair just reverts back to kinky as it’s naturally wavy, so I’ll get random kinks at the back or around my face throughout the day.

I use Moroccan oil (original) and GHD heat protectant, then slather on the hairspray. I find that this really helps and my hair stays straight. I also make sure that my hair is well moisturised, it gets kinky as it clings onto the moisture in the air so dry hair makes it worse

R&B hair moisturiser from Lush. Use less than you think you need or you will be a greasy mess. Changed my life!

Ooh, more suggestions to add to the list. Thank you!

Mammabear31
Where do you get Olaplex and which one ?
Do you get Olaplex done in the hairdressers ?

Mammabear31 · 07/06/2018 20:19

Eloise I get it from Amazon, I use Olaplex no.3. I have only had it done in salon a couple of times before a big colour change and it definitely helped to prevent damage.

Honestly, it's amazing stuff.

eloisesparkle · 07/06/2018 20:49

Thank you

I've had a Kebelo treatment done at the hairdressers a year ago and have bought the Kebelo shampoo, conditioner, serum and hair mask from Amazon. Definitely recommend even just buying them!
Really helps to smooth out the hair.

Maybeicanhelp · 08/06/2018 07:05

Is Olaplex or similar a faff to do yourself at home?

I don't even do my own hair dyes at home because I know I'd be useless at it (based on my attempts to do a nice blow dry).

Not at all, I wet my hair and put it on like a mask for an hour or overnight. Rinse off, then wash/condition as normal.

AbsolutelyBeginning · 08/06/2018 09:26

The whole Joico K-Pak range is fantastic.

I also love Redken's Frizz Dismiss range, especially their Instant Deflate oil/serum. It's fantastic! Even humidity can't reach my hair when I'm wearing that.

Almondio · 08/06/2018 10:11

I have very curly hair, and wear it both blown smooth, and naturally curly.

I use Neal Wolf smoothing blow dry balm and it's absolutely brilliant at smoothing my curls, reducing frizz, and protecting my hair from humidity.

I don't usually buy salon brands but wouldn't try anything else now, as this works so well. It's about £12 but worth every penny and lasts ages on my medium length hair, as I don't need much. It's not oily and doesn't weigh hair down at all. Brilliant product.

Maybeicanhelp · 08/06/2018 16:03

@Mammabear31, I've just checked it out and am about to order the Olaplex no 3 to use at home.

I'm not interested in a salon treatment, would I be correct in assuming I don't need one?

I've never bleached my hair and the last perm I had was in the 80s Grin.

I have permanent colour on the ends and semi permanent on the roots, as I am growing out the colour currently.

This stuff is great. It's non sticky, doesn't make your hair stiff and just brushes out. I've got fine, humidity hating hair and this spray keeps my frizz at bay.

Maybeicanhelp · 08/06/2018 16:28

Thanks for the recent suggestions everyone, I did not anticipate having so many options.

With that in mind, I'm washing my hair with baby shampoo later and putting some argan oil after towel drying.

Hopefully this will tame it somewhat until the Olaplex arrives.

I'll be back later with another update. Thanks again Smile.

Well, the baby shampoo / argan oil combo has definitely made my hair sleeker. I'm going to continue with this going forward and see how I get on.

I plan to use the Olaplex overnight weekly as a conditioning treatment.

I'll definitely report back once I've road tested my new regime.

Thank you for all your suggestions.

Aveda curly hair products are the only thing that work for me, the be curly leave in and serum. And bumble &bumble are pretty good too. But this weather sucks. I curl my hair by hand - twist each sectio. and dry with a diffuser to avoid frizz.

pigpoglet · 09/06/2018 07:14

My hair is curly but would be very frizzy without product . If I straighten it I use a spray on serum afterwards which closes the cuticles and then a spray of hairspray . It pretty much stays straight until I wash it . Obvs you have to avoid rain but the humidity is fine .

Itsveryhard · 09/06/2018 08:02

I'm going to try the spray which helps against humidity in my m&s beauty of a go today. I'll report back

ImgoingtoSHABOOMS · 09/06/2018 08:26

Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray is amazing- is an anti humidity blow dry spray. Spray on wet hair before you dry and/or straighten. Is heat activated. Brilliant stuff- I used it on mine for a festival last Monday when the weather was crazy humid and my fringe stayed perfectly straight for the full 12 hours!

WolfMcWolferson · 09/06/2018 08:53

I have very similar problems, but tend to keep it curly.

You need to moisturise it to lower the frizz generally. So no sulphate shampoo, very moisturising conditioner. I do find that more expensive (Kerastase, Pureology etc) are better.

The something to coat it, like I say I do curly so use Umberti Gianni. But if you are drying straight a blow dry should really help. I think the key is to use a paddle/round brush and get it dry quickly.

Does it stay not frizzy after a hairdresser dries it? If so emulating then may help...

Maybeicanhelp · 09/06/2018 09:03

Hair still looking fine this morning, I'd usually straighten it before going out, but I'm going to 'brush and go' today.

Wolf, I'd love to be able to emulate a proper salon blow dry, that's probably a factor.
