Opaque white T shirt... does it exist?

Desperately seeking an opaque white T shirt that doesn't flash my (nude-coloured) bra to the world.

Has anyone caught sight of one of these rare beasts? Can they point me in its direction?

I really want one which is plain white and not crew-necked - scoop or V neck for preference. Ribbed or non-ribbed, but just nice and THICK (just been disappointed by yet another gossamer-thin delivery this morning). Unfortunately it would need to be quite big: about size 18 or 20.

I would be prepared to shell out for a pricey one (up to about £40) if only I could find it!!

Boden had one that looked promising, but they have sold out in my size.

I recently bought a white Tshirt from topman which is completely non see through. So different from the topshop ones

I love a white t shirt! I bought three different types from Boden recently and none are non see through so don’t be too disappointed! You don’t mention sleeve length but I got a few good, thick, 3/4 sleeve and long sleeve Ts from both Kettlewell Colours and Pure Collection. Bit pricey but good. It was end of last year though so not sure if they still have the same in stock.

I have a Ralph Lauren short sleeve white v neck t shirt that's about all I can wear due to boobs stretching material. Cost £25 in Bicester but they have outlets all over the country

Ooh, lots of possibilities to explore here - thank you, everyone!

And good to know that I may not have missed out on much with Boden after all!

I love the Boden double front tees. Scoop neck, 3/4 sleeve, wash well etc. I have white ones, assume they are doing them again this year.

pigpoglet · 05/06/2018 14:23

I like Tesco plain t shirts and next £6 white ones wash and wear well.

babyboyHarrison · 05/06/2018 14:34

Boden double layer ones are great. I think I have 5 white ones I basically wear as a work uniform. The back is only single layer just so you know. Size 18 here and find they help smooth out any lumps and bumps and think they are very flattering. Just keep an eye out on them your size will reappear at some point.

babyboyHarrison · 05/06/2018 14:41

Boden one I mentioned is in stock

I've seen some ppl say Gap has good ones and also mentioned are M&S Supima Tshirts.

Flexoset · 05/06/2018 16:33

Wow that is really good to know - thanks!!

I bought a lovely thick cotton V neck white tee shirt from the Kin range at John Lewis. I wear white or navy tee shirts all year so I’m always on the look out for decent ones!

ThenCameTheFools · 05/06/2018 17:52

M&S Supima or M&S viscose (I know some people don't like non cotton but these are wonderful, soft and a lovely flattering cut, not clingy or baggy and a rounded hem. Am about to order another 4!)

Sonotkylie · 05/06/2018 18:19

Stop! Look no further ... against all the odds, it's Gap. Modern v neck is my choice. Long or short sleeve. So thick they are almost too thick (that's a joke!). I gave up on Gap for years but these are properly good at the moment. Be prepared to experiment with sizes and petite or long depending on your preferences. I am a 30GG size 12 ish 5'5 and wear M or L petite depending on my mood. And Gap ALWAYS has an offer.

I wasn't taken by the Boden double faced ones. But that's just me.
I also like Jigsaw for good shape but only have navy so not sure about see through and I have a pale pink from H and M Conscious range which is as good as Jigsaw and not see through ... not tried the white though.
This is my specialist subject at the moment!

Well, Flexoset I've been trying to find a cotton opaque white tee shirt for years with no luck! The number that are see through is crazy. Seems such a basic piece of clothing. Thanks everyone for the suggestions though!!

Flexoset · 08/06/2018 19:52

Thank you, everybody, and a particularly massive THANK YOU to @Sonotkylie for the Gap recommendation!!! I am now the proud owner of not one but two white Modern V Neck T-shirts from them which are just the shape I was after and are (...drumroll...) genuinely opaque.

At last I can be sure that my underwear will not be exposed to all and sundry.

I knew the Style & Beauty posse wouldn't let me down!

A pleasure! And now we have to campaign for Gap NOT to replace them with something woeful ...
